PC Peripherals The Logitech MX518 vs Razer Copperhead

I was planning on getting a mouse for my lappie. Since i play a fair amount of games and since my previous mouse was a MX510 i thought of getting a gaming mouse.

Since i rather have a coded mouse, the choices have come down to the Logitech MX518 or the Razer Copperhead.

Prices are the MX518 @ 42$ and the Copperhead @ 40$.

Any opinions from previous users here? Pros & Cons? Have large hands so again that can be a factor here.

Eh? the CH cant be cheaper than the Mx518...the last i checked was that the 518 was $35 something and the CH was $80

And before the "pros" come in here and start raving abt Optical's advantages over lasers, I will say this.

A lot depends on your mousepad. If you are using Glass or MEtallic mousepads, lasers wont be too good.... but if you are using stuff like Razer Exactmat, Mantis, Steelpad QCK, the COpperhead will be very good.

IF you plan on using the mouse on a variety of surfaces, then for an all round performance the MX 518 would be better

The CH is on sale for an offer at the moment and comes 4 39.99$.

So you mean to say that if I am getting the Copperhead. that i should get a mat(for which it works?) too along with it?

Correct me if im wrong.
 
Nikhil, i read around more on this laser vs optical and most of these sites seem to point out that laser mouses are more surface friendly and work on a wider range of surfaces..

So, i am a bit confused over your statement.. Please help me out here.
 
I use a laser mouse itself and I have NEVER had any problems with it.

The thing is, pros like ashr, rio claim that laser doesnt work well on all surfaces and optical is better....do a search of ashr's posts and you will come across a few threads relating to mice discussions.

I am not a pro and just saying what these guys say....

I would go for a laser mouse anyday and after spending 2K on a mouse, I would spend a bit more and get a decent mousepad with it.

The mousepads like icemat dont work too well with the laser mice from what I have heard....
 
I bought a CH a few days after it was released, used it first on a Exactmat, and now using on Mantis. Never had it skip even once.

The factor that you should base your decision on is whether you prefer to grip the mouse using your palm or your fingers. The approach to design the mouse is different between Razer and Logitech. The main difference between the two.... choose CH if you like to move the mouse around using your fingers, and if you feel more comfy using your palm then MX518 is the right one for you.
 
Uhm sorry to ask question here hope you don't mind.

Does the CH work perfectly fine on the QcK mini?
 
MX518 any day of the week, unless you want to gamble with the CH.... I know of at least 3 people (2 right here on TE) who have had to RMA their mouse :) What sucks is that we pay $50-60 for these mice and they can't even last a year without trouble... my $20 MX310 has been going strong for over 3 years, but my Diamondback stopped working once and last week started getting stuck ingame.

Get the MX518, you won't regret it.
 
Well, thanx a lot for all the info guys.

Went out and bought the mouse now. Came to around 43$ after tax for the Copperhead(Tempest Blue).

Well, iv already played around with the MX510 so know the feel and grip of the MX518 except for the dpi difference between the two. So thought, for a change would go with a different mouse.

So here i am using the mouse as we speak.. err, type...:P

Initial thoughts??

Wolfff, you hit the nail bang on the centre when you mentioned that you should purchase a mouse on how you grip it coz the razor is not a palm grip mouse like the MX518 but more like a finger grip mouse.

Pros :- High Sensitivity, Cool looks & Lights, Cheaper then the MX518

Cons :- Huge buttons that need adjustment to get used to, More of a finger movement mouse which again needs to get used to if used to a logitech mouse.

All in all, its a good mouse and since it comes with a 2 year warranty i think i got the risky part covered there(hopefully! :ashamed: )..
