The Nokia E52 is smarter and faster but isn't quite optimized for music unlike the Nokia 5730 XM.
The 5730 XM also has a better camera & video recording feature.

Thanks, Read a lot about firmware issues with the e52 and since it hasn't yet launched here swinging towards the 5730..
Thanks a lot for ya inputs! :)

Hi,

I'm looking for a mobile from US. Looking for
1. Email check and reply facility and checking occasional website.
2. Should be great looking and slim (not a big fan of bulky devices like n series)
3. Should have a good battery backup, preferably a week
4. GPS would be great.
5. Camera not a priority.
6. Music not a priority.

budget less than 270$.

Well, prices may vary depending on the method of purchase, outright retail purchase or through a contract, former being more expensive.

Possible Options :

SE G705
Nokia 5800 XM
Nokia N79

The above devices have both Wi-Fi and GPS.

Hi TTM,

which one of these three phones you reckon is a safe bet.

1.BlackBerry® Pearl™ Flip 8230

2.Samsung Aliasâ„¢ 2

Interesting.

One has a partial QWERTY keypad and the other a unique transforming one, both lack Wi-Fi but compensate the same with 3G.

I suggest you read the following two reviews on Cnet :

RIM BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 - silver (Verizon Wireless) Smartphone reviews - CNET Reviews

Samsung Alias 2 SCH-U750 (Verizon Wireless) Cell Phone reviews - CNET Reviews

If its a smartphone your after, the BB 8230 is your answer.

Hope this helps.

It will be retail purchase, no contract.
SE G705 is a little dated model. Anything new?.

Well, There's the LG GT505.

I suggest you find out (visit a store) what's currently available in your price range, I'll help you from there.

Not able to figure out actual retail prices from websites.

I need a Phone under the budget of 5K. Primary usage will be music. Although I do realize the constraints of this budget, I would like to get the best possible phone in this range. Will be using this phone for years.

Nokia 5130 XpressMusic - 5.1k (best in this budget)
Nokia 2700 Classic - 4.5k ( VFM)

I'm dumping the plan to buy from u.s.
Nonsense stuff for exorbitant prices. Better to buy from here.

@TTM

Any news about the tentative launch date for Nokia N900? It hasn't even started shipping in the US! God only knows when it will be launched here. Also, and I guess, the price will be hiked to $600+, more like $650, after its official release, from the current pre-order price of $559.99.

KMD is quoting 35,500INR to get it to me here.

The thing is, I will be leaving for US of A within the year, so warranty issues will arise if I wait and buy from here. Also I don't want to miss out on its pre-order price. So what is the best way to procure the N900, when you don't have a damn credit card? Oh and no friends coming back either. :(

Phone for dad

Need a phone for my dad.

Budget <18k

I am thinking of getting a business phone....though he'll not be using most of the features.

Top most priority is that the phones should look classy.

- Blackberry 8520

- Nokia E71 (too common, would like to avoid it)

- BB Bold (no idea abt its current price)

-No touchscreens plz :)

Any other

A friend of mine is looking for a phone under 17K.

Requirements are :

Good web browser + Resolution + Bigger Screen Size

Preferably a Windows Mobile OS

Qwerty keypad / slide out

Edge/3G

Good quality camera w/autofocus

Good Music Player

He was thinking of getting HTC TynII for 16K.

The Nokia 5130 XM should do.

Will start shipping later this month (pre-orders).

Full-fledged availability starting early next month, just in time for the holiday season. :P

A 2yr contract with one of the US carriers could probably get you a better price.

I'd suggest waiting for the device to saturate into the market before you take the plunge.

TTM, gotta buy in the next few hours...plz suggest :)

First off, the BB Bold retails at 29.3K.

Between the BB 8520 and the Nokia E71 :

The latter does look classy in addition to packing a lot of features but the simpler yet faster Curve isn't that bad either.

Also, with a BB device, one needs to subscribe to BB's Internet service which isn't exactly cheap but quite efficient.

The only other option would be the Nokia E75 with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

IMHO, the classiest device of the lot is the Nokia E71.

The BB 8250 comes a close second.

Well, most WinMo based devices in this price range have a touchscreen instead.

The only option that meets all his requirements would be the Samsung B7320 OmniaPRO (13.7K*) !

A symbian alternative would be the Nokia E75 (17.2K*).

The HTC TynII is known to have issues and is quite outdated.

Hope this helps.

Plz suggest a phone with following features:

1) 3G
2) Support for lots of apps/games. Like symbian60. i dunno abt other OSes.
3) decent cam
4) 3.5mm audio jack
5) 3G
6) Maybe non-touchscreen coz lots of games won't be playable without keys.

I'd selected nokia 5320xm after searching lots but not its production has stopped. U could suggest a similar phones.

EDIT: BUDGET ~10k

The only phone in this price range with a decent camera is the SE C510 (9.2K*).

However, it does lack a 3.5mm audio jack and your limited to basic java games and applications.

The prices of current Symbian (S60) devices from Nokia, start from 10K.

And cheaper options, esp. music phones with a 3.5mm jack, miss out on 3G and a decent cam.
