@hotshot05 : thanks buddy!

Among above suggested models I found Moto Rokr EM30 quite interesting...
Is anyone out there who owns this phone? If so, please give me a review/feedback of it.

I also need to know about the UI(its ease), speed of operation (heard it works on Linux monavista), durability (its build), internet connectivity for PC ( using EDGE) and any other info....

Cheers!

I cant exactly tell about the navigation on the EM30, since it lacks the touch sensitive omega wheel. But I have used the Motorola E8(the hardware of the EM30 is an exact copy of E8 excepting the omega wheel) and I really like it. Though it may lag a bit some times but still it is good. It is almost like the Navi Wheel on the Nokia phones but is a much better implementation in here.

The keypad does not offer too much tactile feedback and so the people who touch type while writing sms'es may give this a miss since most of the time you cannot type without looking at the screen.

But it has a fabulous music quality.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions, really helped. She's in love with the SE Z555 :)
Just a couple of questions though
1)Is the UI as good as a typical Nokia S40 phone?
2)Is there anyway to backup the contacts from Nokia 6030(Her current phone) and transfer it to the SE phone?Since the backup of nokia PC suite is *.nbu
3)Not important, but any idea how much is the current phone(Nokia 6030) worth? Its just over a year and its in good condition.
Regards

1.Not very straightforward like the S40 but easy to get used to.
2.Suggest copying the main contacts from the 6030 to the SIM and the reverse in the new phone !
Or the usual PC Suite Backup(aid of Outlook Express/Address book)
3.Around 500 bucks reduction on exchange !

Anyone here owns the Nokia 5230 XpressMusic? I've read in many reviews that the battery life of the phone is a big let down. Could anyone confirm this?
The phone seems perfect for my requirements but if the battery life is poor then I'll have to look for something else. Anyone has any suggestions for a phone with similar features? My budget is Rs. 15k max. I require the phone to be fast and I would prefer either a 3.5mm jack or the ability to somehow use my own headphones.

I have used it , the UI is pretty awesome , its pretty fast and responsive , i own a RokR e6 which runs the same OS , internet connectivity for PC is also easy , there is a dedicated modem mode for the pc and the drivers are on the CD . The only factor where it may lack is durability , motorola phones arent generally very durable

@thetoxicmind
Thanks a lot for your help.Irony is there are no outlets sell SE Z555 :( ,She's really disappointed. If only the Moto rzr or krzr had radios she would have gone for it.
She didn't like the other phones and she's willing to increase to budget to around 8k.So i'm asking for your help again :)
Regards

PS:SE W380i was another option, but sadly even that is out of stock :(. Any alternatives to W380i?

If your budget is around 15k, then you must buy the Nokia N78. It has good sound quality and a great battery life. It has the same battery which is in the Nokia N95 8GB and it runs on Symbian S60 v9 FP2 which has been optimised for reduced battery consumption.

If you are in Mumbai, you can get the N78 for around 12.5k. But the price does not seem to have reduced in other cities yet.

You mean the 5320 ?

Well,it does have a poor battery life esp. considering the fact that it is a music phone ! The camera quality is mediocre too...

There is very little similarity in between the UI of the Motorola E8/EM30 and the E6. The E6 does not have the rotating menu option and the other menu layout is nothing like the E8.

The OS of the E6 and the E8/EM30 are completely different. The E6 is based on the old, stable P2K OS(based on Linux) while the E8/EM30 is based on the brand new Montavista Linux(its development though has been discontinued by Motorola). If a custom firmware is installed on the E6, a lot of applications are available for it(visit www.modmymoto.com) while very few apps are available for the E8/EM30 as it is a very new OS.

@Hells_Fury

Yeah,Give the N78 a try...
see if your comfortable with its design & (esp. music) performance ...
for 12.5k,it offers a lot !!! else its upto you...

You'll just have to keep searching or try to source one from another city!

Also consider the SE W300 & SE Z550i

...

Other than the models I've mentioned there are clamshells(Flip) from Fly:rofl: !?

@hotshot05 - Thanks for the suggestion. Will check out the N78.

@thetoxicmind - Yup I meant the 5320 XM. I forgot to mention that I do not want flip or slide designs. So unfortunately that rules out most of your suggestions. But I will check out the W890 and the N78. Thanks for the suggestions.

ok guys till now i wasn't sure if i will be buying a phone..
and now i am confirmed i will be buying one..
so here we go..

  • I am gonna sell my current phone [ Samsung F480 a.k.a Tocco] which is 2-3 months old only. :ashamed: Though it has a great 5MP camera.. I can hardly install any applications on it :@ I can't install anything directly from my pc and if i like any free app i have to download it directly on my phone which costs me like 1p per KB! so Rs 3 per app [approx if app =300KB]
I want a phone..

  • Which would come in the Budget of 20 to 25k

  • Which could use the internet in the best way possible. I would then shift to the unlimited gprs plan of vodafone [If there exists any, dat is]

  • Which would have a great app support.

  • If possible a good enough camera as well because i take loads of pictures when ever am with friends or at college :P Which i suppose won't be possible cos i am shifting from a 5MP cam :(

  • As for music, I have a bluetooth stereo head set but i always prefer my good ol' ipod classic :D
Some key points:
1> my mom is using the htc touch.. and i really like the windows mobile a lot.. but i think it does not have many apps out there for it as compared to the iphone. I searched a lot on the net didn't find any good games either.. :| Found Age of Empire Gold edition for ppc but its demo doesnt work on htc touch??:S
2>The Iphone satisfies my 3rda nd the 4th point about internet and app support
3>Java based phones suck? cos i hardly see any good graphic softwares/games for java phones..

so bottom line:- PDA+Great App Support[like in iphone]+The Best Browsing Experience

if possible please give the current market price of the recommended phones too..

Rest of the details i will add as soon as they come to me lol :P

Thank You! :)

Firstly, there are a no. of apps available for the win mobile platform..

you just need to look for them !

Your options:

i-Mate JAMin ~ 22.7k*

Asus P552w ~ 21k*

HTC Touch 3G ~ 24.8k*

You could buy the Nokia N85(because of its gorgeous OLED screen) or if you want visually stunning games(like Quake 2) buy the N95 8GB.
