Well, budget is <15k
the nokia 6500 slide & the 5610 fit in perfectly..

BTW whats the difference between the Windows Mobile OS and the S40v3 os?
for eg., which is better, as in what more can i do on the OS compared to Symbian?
windows mobile is jus a simple version of the desktop window designed for the mobile.it has lot of productivity software & supports various 3rd party apps for windows.so you can do hell lot more on a windows os than a s40os..it's quite confusing to navigate..most devices have a touchscreen(quite essential)
S40 V3 on the other hand is a much simpler interface, lesser features(all basic requirements are present!) and supports only java(j2me)software be it games or apps..total ease of use !...no touchscreen reqd, softkeys can be used easily..

eg:u can actually install various video players & video codecs on ur win mobile phone..but in a s40 phone,it's just the in-built video player that's available and doesn't offer any advanced features mostly playin 3gp & or mp4 vids
sweet,simple & ideal - S40V3
resource intensive,scalable,app. support,advanced - windows mobile

hope you got the point?

the 3400 is more of a business phone, but do you have any idea how the speaker quality is?
" The volume provided by the loudspeaker is quite average, and during a call you won’t experience any problems with hearing what you contact has just said. Although, a headset would make more sense should you find yourself in a noisy room or a bust street, as in these call-unfriendly environments, the device won’t present you with a sufficient volume level. Oh, and any idea if the wifi and TouchFlo (or whatever) of the HTC Touch is worth the 4-5k over the HTC p3400?

well, the touchflow provides iphone like experience.. fingers could do magic..well still ain't as excitin as the iphone!
and havin wifi in any device is always a bonus, considering the wireless interent you can use to surf..you can even hooki it up to a wireless router and use your pc's internet connection !

so,it is worth the premium..and you get a much better PDA than the p3400 !

Thanks a tonne thetoxicmind, Private Ryan, Ajo and vignesh :)

i got myself the HTC P3400

Got it for rs.12409 from The Mobile Store.

Oh, and i won a Family Holiday Pack for 3days/2nights stay in Thailand, Nepal or India :| dunno what to do with it :S

Back to the topic, i held the 5610 and i must say i was VERY impressed! Unfortunately i'd set my mind on using the Windows Mobile OS, so i got the p3400.

If i'd held/seen the 5610 a few days ago, i'd have bought it on the spot :)

i'm recommending the 5610 to 3 friends of mine :) i think its an awesome phone worth the moolah :)

Reg. the p3400 vs. Touch, i got the p3400, coz like cyberjunkie and kissofdeath told me, you'll be having wifi at home or work, so whats the point when you can work from your workstation.. it IS sorta helpful for some, but not to me in a big way :)

and i think i can survive without the TouchFLO ;)

plus the 17.5k was a little over my budget..

i got myself 5610 recently and well, i can do some kickass show-off with it :p

looks super cool and functions the same way :p

i have a query of my own addressed towards fellow 5610 owners..

how to i watch .avi files in my phone?

i tried using nokia video manager/xilisoft 3gp converter n few other s/w s...

when i convert the .avi to .mp4, my phone just plays the audio :S

and i'm not able to convert to .3gp in the first place :S

Why not use it? go to thailand while your at it :)

Yeah the touch was over your budget but it sure does look better than the P3400 and offers more bang for the buck..
and are you satisfied with the p3400 's speaker ??

last but not the least..congrats on ur purchase !
a review after sometime would be nice..

s40 can't play AVI/MPG files.. neither is there any video player which can do so . another down-side of an s40 phone :( (no codec software available unlike Symbian)

dude, use WinAVI converter. select 320x240 resolution,15FPS( in 'mp4' advanced menu ).

@TTM: yeah, speaker is great! I['m very happy with it.
the volume via the WMP is very low, but the sound quality via the built-in Media Hub is excellent :) and the volume of the ringtone is even louder :)

The camera is a downer though. i've seen better 2MP cams..

Will do a review if i find the time :)

@broar: i thought s40 was symbian 40 :| only now i read that it isnt symbian! thank goodness i didnt get the 5610, coz at the least, i was hoping it had symbian..

That's good to hear

well,no phone is perfect..they all hve their pros & cons !

Atleast for Nokia Phones..
Series 60,80 & 90 phones run Symbian
Series 40 isn't !

About Symbian OS

Nokia has made Symbian OS its strategic choice for smartphone operating systems. Nokia S60 Software, currently the most widely used software platform in the smartphone market worldwide, runs on Symbian OS - as does the advanced Nokia Series 80 Communicator devices. The Symbian OS-based Nokia Series 90 platform delivers touch screen technology and an advanced software development environment for media-rich applications. : NOKIA

But Nokia S40 phones tend to win over symbian phones in the long run as they tend to offer ALMOST all essential features that symbian ones offer and also much FASTER & MORE STABLE compared to the latter!
But the major downside is no 3rd party app. support & lesser processing power !

kinda OT ...

can any 5610 owners out there help me ??

i keep getting this "health tips... match news" kinda crap on my standby screen all the time ever since i started using the phone..
i wasn't getting this when i was using my 6600..
no, they aren't SMS-es..

Thanks y'all ... :)

Looks like there was no quicktime/real codec on my PC :p

only WinAVI prompted about that.. then i had to install them.

now i'm able to see .3gp stuff in my phone :D

^^ The processing power doesnt depend on the OS dude.. And they do have Java app support.

i meant phones which run S40 tend to have lower processing power just enough to process the essential functions offered by them and that they don't need MORE unlike symbian phones ,where they need to process more advanced apps.,function etc..

And by 3rd party apps i mean't actual apps like media players, antivirus soft.,true 3d gmaes etc..sure java is supported by most phones but s40 supports ONLY JAVA apps & games..

think i was clear in what i said..

that's gud to hear..
and you need a codec only in real player as for quicktime, ver 6.5 & above readily support 3GP playback..
even VLC Media player plays 3gp files..

@ttm

dude i need advice regarding FLY phones.. got a coupon to buy one... coupon's worth to 7k.. suggest me good one.... do these phones have any serious issues??

well, for 7k you can either go in for the..

Fly SL 600 - 7K ~ 2MP,Bluetooth,Mem. slot,GPRS,EDGE,FM

Tech Specs

(Or)

Fly B700 Duo - 7.5k ~ 2MP,Bluetooth,Mem. slot,GPRS,2 Sim Cards

Tech Specs

Frankly,I'm still a little apprehensive about recommending a Fly phone. They are afterall a new brand(atleast in India) & their product support is questionable(unknown)..so buy it at your own risk. But since your getting it through a coupon,i don't see any harm in giving it a try..

I did read somewhere about charger problems, memory card incompatibility and you'll want to check this link out..Complaints Board | Subhiksha Stores / Fly Mobiles

Like always..

Check out both phones in person & decide!

Please suggest me a mobile phone in a budget of Rs. 10000. My requirements are as follows:
-Excellent reception and sound quality
-Very good battery life
-Sturdy build
-Good FM radio, music capability
-Camera not important.

Thanks in advance!
