@Aces, in the tea scenario, would a longer exposure have made the steam coming out of the cup appear thicker?

If this is the case, how would one compensate for the over exposure without sacrificing the DOF offered by the large aperture?
 
The tea snap is taken using a flash in almost pitch darkness, hence I dont think a long exposure would work here. Besides a long exposure would just make the steam hazy, and not thicker. There was very little steam hence just the wisp. Oh and ofcourse you require a tripod for long exposure.

Over exposure can be compensated by many ways, exposure settings, reducing the ISO, or capture in RAW and adjust in PP.

Touzeen: I agree, that's the reason I am opting for faster lens these days :p But I had no option while taking the pic.
