It's that time of the year again. PES and FIFA teams have been showing their games earlier this year and both are expected to release 2-3 weeks before their release dates from last year. On the console front, PES has a lot of catching up to do. (Yeah, I said it!). From all early accounts, they seem to be doing it. Here's what has been released till now. I'll post more details when they are released.

New Game play Mechanics
CARD SYSTEM - This seems like a very interesting new tactical development. They have removed the old star system in the statistics, and each player now has cards. There are two types of cards, from what I can see.
1) Defense Awareness Cards/Skill Cards - Similar to the star system, each player has specific cards. This will be like the 'Outside Foot Shotting', '1-on-1'
star, etc.
2) Play Style - This is where it gets interesting. You can assign cards to players for modifying their behaviour. Sergio Ramo can have the 'Over Lapping Run. card, to get into advanced positions. (You can turn it off if you are being hammered.) Rooney can have the 'Track Back' card, Messi/Torres have an 'Incisive Run' card, etc. These cards do not change the statistics of the player, only how they behave on the pitch. Putting 'Track Back' on Robben will tire him out easil, and would be a bad move.
TEAM PLAY - This is a set of sliders that lets you decide how your team plays. Setting the 'Switch Position' slider to zero will make the players go back to their positions quickly, whereas close to hundred, they'll stay in their newer positions more. 'Pressing' slider will control how your defense is organized. Like Barcelona or like Liverpool. (Pressing by midfield, forwards or a more laid back defense.)
Main Points from Previews
1) Game Play slowed down
2) Champions League integrated into Master League, real currency.
3) No more Konami ID!
4) Lots of new animations with motion capture still being done.
5) Glitches fixed (Freezing after free kick, near post headers, etc)
All in all, looks promising. This year I'll have the option of FIFA 10 on console and PES 2010 on the PC. After the demos, can decide which one to get.
