The Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 Thread

It's that time of the year again. PES and FIFA teams have been showing their games earlier this year and both are expected to release 2-3 weeks before their release dates from last year. On the console front, PES has a lot of catching up to do. (Yeah, I said it!). From all early accounts, they seem to be doing it. Here's what has been released till now. I'll post more details when they are released.

New Game play Mechanics

CARD SYSTEM - This seems like a very interesting new tactical development. They have removed the old star system in the statistics, and each player now has cards. There are two types of cards, from what I can see.

1) Defense Awareness Cards/Skill Cards - Similar to the star system, each player has specific cards. This will be like the 'Outside Foot Shotting', '1-on-1'

star, etc.

2) Play Style - This is where it gets interesting. You can assign cards to players for modifying their behaviour. Sergio Ramo can have the 'Over Lapping Run. card, to get into advanced positions. (You can turn it off if you are being hammered.) Rooney can have the 'Track Back' card, Messi/Torres have an 'Incisive Run' card, etc. These cards do not change the statistics of the player, only how they behave on the pitch. Putting 'Track Back' on Robben will tire him out easil, and would be a bad move.

TEAM PLAY - This is a set of sliders that lets you decide how your team plays. Setting the 'Switch Position' slider to zero will make the players go back to their positions quickly, whereas close to hundred, they'll stay in their newer positions more. 'Pressing' slider will control how your defense is organized. Like Barcelona or like Liverpool. (Pressing by midfield, forwards or a more laid back defense.)

Main Points from Previews

1) Game Play slowed down

2) Champions League integrated into Master League, real currency.

3) No more Konami ID!

4) Lots of new animations with motion capture still being done.

5) Glitches fixed (Freezing after free kick, near post headers, etc)

All in all, looks promising. This year I'll have the option of FIFA 10 on console and PES 2010 on the PC. After the demos, can decide which one to get.

PS: Is there a FIFA fan around here? A similar thread for the game would be nice, I've not been following what they are upto. (And I mean the Console version. :p)

Same here. Thanks for the info. Keeping my fingers crossed for this version and hope Seabass delivers on his promises. Usually the pc version is the worst version.

Also i hope they don't sacrifice the gameplay for the visual upgrades that they're working on.

Maybe you are getting confused with FIFA?

For PES , PC is usually the best version. Konami develop on the PC and then port it to the 360 and PS3.

You can get higher resolutions and modding is much better. (Though Online is much better on the PS3/XboX360, I think.)

Well i'm going to have disagree with you on that. If you've played the past 2 versions of PES, you would agree with me that Konami first builds on the 360 then ports it to the ps3/pc. You can see this clearly with the button mapping that they have incorporated in the PC version which has the 360 controller buttons mapped.

:)

I remember reading a Seabass interview where he says that development takes place on the PC.

Edit: Here is interview I was talking about. He said old gen PS2 was lead, next-gen, PC is lead.

Also, if you read the previews for PES 2010, you'll notice the people who played it say that they played a build on a PC hooked up with the XboX and PS3 controllers. If XboX 360 was the main development platform, they would have demo'd it on that.

From the WENB preview

Just to emphasize how early this game was, we were sampling it through the source code! That’s actual PC’s running the game, with PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers attached to it.

Wow amazing to hear ....
Any Idea on release date and online lags?

Fifa 10 has a release date of October 2nd I think. PES may be on the 2nd or the 9th. (No confirmed dates yet for either game)

Konami have also said that they have stopped using the system used in PES 2008 and 2009 and have gone moved to an updated version of the system used in PES 06. (which, if I remember correctly, was pretty OK).

Just in gaiz, a new pes/fifa game was just released. More at 11.

I find it funny how these crap-tastic titles keep getting expansion packs..lol. You just kick a damn ball, its been almost the same way since fifa 99.

Almost as mental as the fanboys who lapped up the 16,000 sims expansion packs. Think they even had a horse pony hello kitty expansion pack for that...

The PS3 and Xbox demos should be out at the usual times that XBL and PSN are updated.
I am off to play. :hap2:

All that matters are good player faces. Not like Ronaldo in FIFA09(They covered his hairstyle part but , wtf did they do to his face?) .

While Fifa has probably come closer to PES over the past few years, I'm still addicted to the PES gameplay.

I dunno if it's just me but the graphics while playing seem a lot smoother in PES. Fifa cut scenes are cool but gfx while playing dont cut it for me.

I just played the pes 2010 demo and i'm happy to say that Konami is back with a BANG this year!!

Starting from the menu layout to the gameplan strategy and player likeness to the fluidity of the players' motion this game is seriously gonna kick Fifa's behind :)

Fifa has Come Close ? LOL ?

PES has never even been near the FIFA series. Look at the player models during game play. Still look sucky.

PES is just addictive to a bunch of people because of the gameplay they are used to. Simple. There's no single feature which makes it better than the FIFA.

There are two possibilities. You haven't played football games before Fifa08/PES2008 generation, or you are just plain trolling.

FIFA has only overtaken PES in the last two years, and that too only on the console. Even now some of us prefer the individuality that is present in PES over the generic players in FIFA.

I have been playing FIFA from 2006, all the versions but i only played PES2009, i have to say gameplay wise PES was much much better than FIFA. Also FIFA 09 was a total crap, it was nothing but the graphical improvements over 08. the only thing nice abt FIFA 09 was adidas live season, although i am fan of FIFA i still like PES a lot, mainly bcoz of their background scores, menu style and best of it gameplay so i am waiting for PES10.
