The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Discussion Thread

I have always loved how RPGs have very immersing stories but unfortunately, the gameplay style never suited my tastes (barring Mass Effect).

So now here I am, trying my luck with RPGs again.

I started with this game and the first thing I must say is that the graphics are really nice! I had to turn off uber sampling though. The opening video was really great and one of the best I've seen in a long time. Plus the beginning scene of the story was a really nice treat as well! :ohyeah:

Now I'm a complete noob with RPGs, but the combat in this game seems very difficult. I'm playing it on normal mode and I'm literally stuck in the early stages itself. I just keep dying. :| Any tips on how to go about combat?

have u installed the new v2.0 patch? if not, i would suggest u do so first. The combat has been streamlined and the tutorials are improved.

Nope haven't installed any patch.

I'm started to get the hang of it now, but still it's a bit tough when a few shield wielding guys horde up against me.

Déjà vu! :P

I'll quote what I had posted before.

^Parry and block the strikes - it may take a while getting used to the combat. I felt the same initially but was pretty easy later on. You may have to attempt a boss battle more than just a couple of times until you get it right. If it becomes too hard, lower down the difficulty to easy until you cross that boss-battle and resume back the previous difficulty. Constantly upgrade your weapons and armor. For money, just trade all the unwanted items with the dealer and keep a check on the inventory. You will have a stockpile of money towards the end of the game so use it generously but wisely. Do not spend on unwanted inventory (I realised I was carrying a boatload of iron ore and leather and had to dispose them off mid-way when I changed the swords which was a notch heavy!) If you feel that the combat against some AI is harder than the rest you have faced until then, use potions and boost Geralt's ability before you approach the boss. Most potions last a while but do not let them run out of time since you cannot consume/prepare one in the midst of a battle! Upgrade Geralt's training and swordsmanship skills properly. You may not use some abilities at all so do not invest the skill unnecessarily (blocking arrows? I never did that!). Some of the abilities towards the end of the branch (which are grossly powerful than the rest!) can be further enhanced using mutagens - keep an eye on them.

Good luck with your adventure. You will love it!

I remember someone posting about the combat too, but didn't bother searching the thread. :P

Anyways, I'm starting to get the hang of it. Earlier I just used to block/parry, but that doesn't help if you do that the whole time. I found dodging to be very useful and never let the enemies surround me. Dodge and run away and then kill one by one.

Right now in Chapter 1. Had some little fun in the brothel. Triss is hot. Assuming there's more treat ahead. :P

Guys, is 2.0 version different from original, whicher 2 or its just and update..As i have finished the game long back......

It is mostly just an update. But it adds one new difficulty for the story mode with some new items which can only be found in that difficulty setting, plus it has added an arena where players can fight monsters and share the scores on an online leaderboard.

how big is the patch? and also do steam users get huge 9gb patch as usual?

The patch size for v1.35 to v2.0 is around 900MB.

I don't know about that. The update to 1.35 was around 9 gb. Thankfully, this time the update size is 1.25 GB. Comparatively lesser, thankfully. :)

Guys is there any differnece between these two patches

witcher v2.0 international patch (900mb)
witcher v2.0 EFIGS (eng,french bla ...bla ..) (700mb)
btw is there any direct 1.0 -> 2.0 patch

unlike the above ones which are 1.35 to 2

Dark edition:

Unlike the failed console port of The Witcher, the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will actually hit stores. Today Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and CD Projekt RED announced the release date for the series' 360 debut.

In Witcher 2, players step into the shoes of professional monster hunter Geralt. Geralt finds himself in the middle of a civil war in the Kingdom of Temeria. Geralt must get to the bottom of the shadowy conspiracy playing out in the background.

The 360 edition of Witcher 2 is called the "Enhanced Edition." The Enhanced Edition is said to offer over three hours of new content. Presumably it includes the new features added to the PC version via post-launch patches, such as the Arena mode and Dark difficulty level.

CD Projekt has expressed interest in creating a PS3 edition of the game as well. However, they wanted to put all of their resources into first getting the game on the Xbox 360.

"We do not like to engage 50/50. With everything we go with full speed, always. The other thing is switching from PC to Xbox 360 was quite straightforward. We already have people that have done 360 games on board," said senior producer Tomasz Gop in June. "Right now we're on the look out for a good PS3 developer, so it might happen."

The Xbox 360 version of Witcher 2 will arrive in North America on April 17th.

Well I hope you console lovers are happy now.

I enjoyed it on PC, it was fun, no payments for DLC's and no DRM [after patch 1.1]. Well have fun fellows.

Yes we are happy. PC version was almost on the verge of leading my rig into a virtual meltdown. As expected, it's the enhanced edition, which promises over 3 hours of additional content, so yeah, I.R Happy.

I just watched the gamespot video and they have confirmed that the lightning in the game is not that good as PC and there are some pop in textures , but they have improved the camera in the game which would help enhance the gameplay while in combat.

The CG Movie looks amazing

Yep we got all that extra content too, free of charge so to say. I'm really happy with CDPROJECKTRED for this, no DRM [must be one of those really few companies which doesn't have DRM] and no extra paying for DLC's.

About the meltdown it happened to my PC initially, but all patched up it is a pretty solid performer with very few issues, so I'm happy and it redefined graphics in its own terminology [Ubersampling]. My vote went to The Witcher 2 for GOTY 2011

Can't get any better can it.

Failed to finish this game twice till now(at launch and after v2.0 update)

Hope that my next start(after enhanced ed release) will end at the completion of this game.
