^I was told about Dragon Age by a lot of members. I recall Aces telling me it was as good as Baldur's Gate when I met him last time. An expansion has come up (Awakening) and a sequel this year. I wonder if I should start from the sequel instead of the first and the expansion.

Dont go with the sequel first. Dragon age origins is the best one out there still.

DA:2 is bad...i dont even remember playing it :-P but i did play it and finish it as per my save file :-D

^Very very taxing if I may add. I could however play it on High after turning off the 'Uber Sampling' setting. Combat is difficult - agreed and not the usual hack-en-slash types but the 'Easy' mode does the trick for beginners. But I reckon completing the game on the 'Normal' mode is much more rewarding and satisfying towards the completion. Fun factor - like I've mentioned before, the RPG genre takes the cake here! :D

Welcome to the Dark Side, my young Padawan!

It's quite hard to resist, ain't it ? :D

^Tell me about it! You know what, I was chosen to stay back at work until 8:30 PM every day last week and yet I used to sleep only by 2~2:30 AM! The game kept me engrossed all the while! :D

Thanks! Will attempt DA: Origins and Awakening soon when I am done with my backlogs. :P

I finally got myself to buying a steam key for this game for Rs 1050 (www.g2play.net). So freakin amazing. Just finished the prologue. Any tips/tricks for a newbie? The combats pretty brutal on Normal difficulty =/

I'm gonna be glued to my comp for a few weeks at least with this game! =D

^Parry and block the strikes - it may take a while getting used to the combat. I felt the same initially but was pretty easy later on. You may have to attempt a boss battle more than just a couple of times until you get it right. If it becomes too hard, lower down the difficulty to easy until you cross that boss-battle and resume back the previous difficulty. Constantly upgrade your weapons and armor. For money, just trade all the unwanted items with the dealer and keep a check on the inventory. You will have a stockpile of money towards the end of the game so use it generously but wisely. Do not spend on unwanted inventory (I realised I was carrying a boatload of iron ore and leather and had to dispose them off mid-way when I changed the swords which was a notch heavy!) If you feel that the combat against some AI is harder than the rest you have faced until then, use potions and boost Geralt's ability before you approach the boss. Most potions last a while but do not let them run out of time since you cannot consume/prepare one in the midst of a battle! Upgrade Geralt's training and swordsmanship skills properly. You may not use some abilities at all so do not invest the skill unnecessarily (blocking arrows? I never did that!). Some of the abilities towards the end of the branch (which are grossly powerful than the rest!) can be further enhanced using mutagens - keep an eye on them.

Good luck with your adventure. You will love it! ;)

Its most annoying when fighting with a bunch of enemies, especially unarmed and you get hit from behind.

Which is where that ability of striking multiple enemies with one hit comes into play. With the first upgrade, it deals 50% damage and with the second level unlocked it deals 100% damage. I think it is in swordsmanship.

Hey I have this issue, in the ending there is a -- Gargoyle Contract -- now I can deactivate two seals but the third one [close to the opening of the first gate into Loc Muine, if you come with Iorveth you'll engage gargoyles here for the first time], I have a game guide but both the options to break the seal don't help, can anyone help me out on this? Cheers!!

Sire, I don't have a problem locating the Gargoyle lairs OR where the seals are, I'm facing an issue where I can't break one of the seals even after re-tracing the steps provided in the official game guide which I got with my copy of The Witcher 2. Have finished the game thrice, but never broken only one particular seal :(.

Began the game sometime back. Darn thing seems to have a steep learning curve. Haven't played the first one either. :(

Anyhow, ATM Geralt is asked to breach into the temple and I've just reached the courtyard.

Can someone provide some general tips please?

Completed Prologue and just stopped where Chapter 1 begins. I am progressing on Normal difficulty.
Did not play the first one too, so I could use your opinion. Does the game terminology/storyline begin to make sense eventually? How long did it take you ultimately to familiarize with the gameplay?

^I'll tell you how I did those seals. The HARD way!!

Basically, I just used the brute force method. Fix two signs as first and second, then alternate the other two signs. Keep repeating this.

Took about 15 mins for the first two rooms. Third one unlocked in 4th-5th try.

I tried to make some sense from the signs, the passage and all, but nothing clicked. So, I just said screw it and went this way. Did not read the manual.. guess I should have done that.

Yes, very much. The game actually takes us back to the final sequence in Witcher which sets the stage for this sequel. So you should have no problems following the plot. But I regret not having played the first title now.

Honestly, it wouldn't take beyond the Prologue for anyone, although it follows a linear narrative. It does however teach you the basics of combat. Once you are into Chapter 1, all the game mechanics of the RPG genre kicks in - exploration, character building, inventory building, gathering resources, combat, side-quests etc. And once you've completed Chapter 1, you'd have mastered most of it.

I think I need to contact CD Projekt RED, brute force method is also not working :(, cheers to all those helped me. Sire(s).

Better play The Witcher: Enhanced edition, you'll get better continuity and the story will be coherent especially the initial assassinations and characters, also your choices in the first game will affect the attitude of characters in the game [very very very much].
