^ These events happen only when there is so much hype that copies are already shipped in India via Dubai and gets available in grey same happened for GT5

I have a query, can IDM be asked to pause its downloads, then I shut-down my PC and next time on start-up these downloads will resume from the already downloaded position OR will I have to download the whole chunk.

For e.g.

I started a cue of the manual update of Witcher 2's Enhanced Edition patch, at my place it takes roughly ~1[sup]1[/sup]/[sub]2[/sub] hours to download one chunk of approximately 285MB of data, now I paused this cue last night and switched off the PC, else I would end up in a tribunal, now will the incompletely downloaded patch pieces resume from the point they have been downloaded OR will they required to be completely re-downloaded.

Thanks for the helps, Regards.

Only thing to check is if the status of "Resume" in IDM is Yes. If it is, no issues - it'll rebuild existing chunks when you restart and resume from there

It will resume from where you left off. The source of those links have resume support and hence IDM will resume them on the next session. I had done that last night to buffer some YouTube video and could easily resume from where I pause the download.

I'm applying the patch as we speak. Good time ahead.

Ah!! now that is a relief I can do some bootstrapping and download in daytime, while I and father are away and consolidate the files on return.

Let me return home today and report back, thank you gentlemen. Cheers!!

Some websites change the links dynamically so even though they support resume you might have to start over if they switch over links.

I am downloading from the direct The Witcher 2 manual update page, will I face any issues?

Not needed! What IDM does is open a browser from where you can choose a new link for the same download and it'll continue

Looks like the performance just took a hit after the patch. The intro cut-scene of Geralt running through the forest, the frames dropped to as low as 14fps. I had only completed the tutorial level, before that and it seemed fine. I'll try it properly tonight, once I get back from work.

Okay! I give up. Reached chapter 1 this morning without much issues. Started playing it right now and it crashed and stuttered like hell. I'm certainly jinxed when it comes to this game, more specifically, chapter 1. I don't want to push forward with any fixes anymore. I'm switching over to the Xbox 360 version. Should have done that long back.

I am sorry to hear that Sire, I am currently in the process of downloading this patch, should be done by Saturday / Sunday. I will play it ASAP and corroborate OR put my own evaluation forth, whether the performance of the game has been hit OR not.

Hope, you get the XBox copy soon [are you purchasing it from flipkart.com] and can continue your story.

I re-installed the entire game last night, as I had made some changes to the user.ini file and set TextureMemoryBudget to 1000. This could have probably led to the crashes. Now, I have re-done the settings from it's main launcher and picked up the game from where I left off yesterday. Played for about an hour and seems to be working fine. Will have more time to test for tonight and over the weekend.

Anyway, could you tell me how to approach the side quests? Do they lapse after certain events of the main quests? The journal entries which have a green check mark on the quests, indicate it's completion right? I have 2 such quests from the prologue which aren't ticked. But I remember completing every side and main quest in the prologue.

Side-quests are approached in two ways in The Witcher world --
  1. You go to the village elder, alderman and talk to them if they have any issues. Randomly speak to anybody and everybody and you will get the side-quests, mostly the quests are preceded by a short cut scene / story element that initiates you into the side-quest. Challenging an arm-wrestler and beating them will unlock the next level of those quests [only applicable for arm wrestling / fist fights and poker quests].
  2. Go to the quest boards, most of the monster slaying quests will be tagged here and again please talk to everyone before you play through the quest. Different NPC's will gve you there perspective on the situation and you can get some advantage / leverage on how to carry out a quest.
Side quests for a Chapter lapse after you have decide to undertake the main quest for that particular Chapter In Chapter 1 that will be dealing with the Kayran, a few are also time bound so be careful.
Do not worry, those Crossed out threads will restart later OR will be concluded logically, tell me the quests that come up as failed for you and I will tell you how they should behave.
Hope this answers your questions, Cheers!!

I remember there was this side quest which was sidelined for a while. Later on, it became unplayable due to the consequences of a main objective and it appeared with a cross mark indicating it cannot be played. So watch out for those!

There are not many side quests in the game anyway.
