What are the things to keep in mind when buying a second-hand MacBook? What should I check? I've heard that some people sell stolen MacBooks, and I don't want to face any such issues. So please share your experience.
 
My brother recently bought a MacBook Pro 2019 i7 32gig 1tb SSD variant for ₹48,000.

Here are some things to check before finalizing the purchase:

  1. Inspect the laptop for any scratches or dents on the surface.
  2. Check the battery cycle count; if it's close to 1000, you will need to change the battery after purchase.

  4. Verify the serial number on the back panel of the laptop and ensure it matches the one in the settings. Some units may come with a different back panel, so it's important to check this.

  6. Compare the price with other sellers; if the seller offers a significantly lower price, something may be wrong.
  7. Test all ports to ensure they are working, especially with the Thunderbolt charger.
  8. Check the speakers at maximum volume; a MacBook should not produce crackling noises when the volume is high.

  10. Ask the seller about the laptop's history. If they mention it was a showpiece or demo unit, consider looking elsewhere.

Thanks, these are really helpful pieces of advice. also, what about if its stolen ? Is there any way to check that? If we are buying from someone person not a shop, I believe they’ll hardly provide any warranty unless the brand warranty is still avilable. and how to be sure it's not repaired locally? Should I ask for identification details before completing the deal? Because if it's repaired and the person claims it's not, can I do anything about it?
 
Ensure that none of the used macbooks you buy have a service program for them, i would avoid anything prior to the M series chips, especially those with the butterfly keyboards, lightbars, alot of the models also had the flex cable that connects the screen to the device breaking/cracking.

will keep in mind, and i am only interested in m2 or better, and what is service program?
