Tired of l33t spk and sms lingo

How many of you here are sick of it? I was just reading a post here on TE..
ppl acting smart thinkin others are jus bafoons....i alwayz trusted TE members n now even i will b forced to think twice to deal on TE..
even ma frens askd how d hell do u do such trades...no gaurantee....i alwayz said TE-is like a family...n do we cheat in a family??...
i hope i wnt have to change my thought.....

no offence to the op intended :) my point here is not to go against you but all those who use such lingo.

but seriously, how hard could it be to type 'be' instead of 'b' or 'my' instead of 'ma' or 'asked' instead of 'askd'. I dont think its 'cool'. Typing with a keyboard is different from usking a keypad on the cellphone. There should be a rule against it :@ .
 
Some ppl jus type it out like tat HH.. Cant really blame 'em; nothing controversial I guess cos some ppl use their cellfones like how I do wen M inside my boring class hrs.. :P

My own eg. 'Jus' instead of Just; 'fer' instead of for; 'd' instead of the (although sometimes I type 'the' :P), 'em instead of them n so forth;
 
it sure is annoying, i wish there was a script/plugin on the forum software that would automatically expand the posts, and also temporarily ban the poster and send them an educational PM to get a clue :P
 
+1 for annoyed reader... I hate when people use SMS/Crippled lingo. I'm not saying everyone should be fluent in English, but at least write proper words.
 
And I thought I was the only one too finicky about these things. Have learnt to ignore now :P
 
I agree, it's extremely annoying and with predictive text input, I don't see any excuse for folks using such language even on SMS, let alone when using a full keyboard
 
I have been trying to ignore for a couple of years now, but this was the last straw. All my repressed feelings have finally come out :phew:
 
SMS lingo - was born out of kanjoosi ( the 160 character limit )

As far as the forums go, i too think that people should try and use proper English.

PS : Everyone get FF and enable that suggestion thingie :D
 
I just use it to save some time and money on SMS'es. Mostly i can compress content of 3 msgs in 1, so its pretty useful ;)

Although i have been trying to stop that habit as i end up using those words in my exam papers :|

dint in place of didnt is my most common mistake :P
 
The sms part, yeah its totally ok, but in such places where keyboard plays the major part, its best to use completed words. Ok I accept I use it short forms here and there but I'd stick on to complete set of words any day.

Dude.. Exam papers?? Man.. you better watch out. The person who corrects your paper might actually shorten your marks :P

The worst part is when the number of letters to be typed is the same... I mean, how is "fer" much better than "for"?

We should institute a ban for people who repeatedly post such disgusting lingo. Frankly, l33t speak has always disgusted me, and SMS lingo needs to stay on phones and not on forums.
 
Its people's choice in the end. You cant force anyone regarding this matter. Also that firefox spell checker is flawed :P It cant understand grammar. Sometimes people end up correcting the spelling to a word which have totally different meaning. I did that just today.

On forums, proper grammar is not required, neither it should be expected. but yes lingos can be annoying at times. I simply dont read those kind of posts. And I cant take people who only type that way seriously to be honest :P
 
Me too Hammerhead !! I hate people who type like this. Even on SMSes. I actually dont bother reading SMSes typed like that. That person might even be offering me a million dollars !!

And when it comes to the computer, it's all the more pissing off. First of all people dont speak proper English and on top of that they type like this ? That really makes me mad !!

The most irritating part is when people think it's cool to type with numbers and symbols. like leet. 1337. or even FAH33M !!

Honestly, that is so pathetic, lame and so wannabe-ish.

No offence meant to people here like Karan, etc, but some nicks are damn annoying.

Fah33m, l33t_something or the other sniper fella, Kidoman (insert whatever symbols and numbers you want) and so many others.

Oh man, Hammerhead, you have no idea how pissing off it is to me. I pride myself on typing full English words. Even on my mobile. But unfortunately, I have also been influenced. I realise that I type ABT instead of ABOUT as normally as I type any other word. This is something I am trying to avoid now.

I still find it hard to understand as I don't do SMS :P:lol: and its pretty annoying for users like me, to understand those short form and l33t/sms language :@

@ Nikhil - Try to understand sarcasm. My nick is damn awesome and I'm not explaining it to anyone. It used to be cool and I don't want to change it. Evaar!!
