Why does this age old discussion always some up. Let ppl use what they are comfortable with instead of forcing your opinion on them.

No OS is "better" or "best". It is all perception. What one might be comfortable with, not necessarily other might also like.

Dude u want one case i know many, where Microsoft officials have raided many enterprises & offices. And fined them royally for using pirated copy of Windows and also many other software companies like corel, Adobe etc...
Have done the same in india.

It's just they are not eying any individual out here for now, that doesn't means they will keep quite in the future.

Yes there are thousands such cases in India already !! But does the common janta know??

Common people are using Windows which is pirated and they think its genuine
But who has the time to go and sue the re-seller companies as long as no one accuses you of using pirated version. MS dont even have the clout to kill the road-side sellers of windows, forget fining individuals at home.
All MS can do is keep advertising !!

Even if just the offices and school/colleges buy their software, and few individuals, its coool for them.
They will never take steps to fine individuals :P

But in future, if more than 60-70% people buy original MS, then they might change policies.
But MS wont do that since it will force people to atleast check the OS Menu...which is injurious to health of MS... :P

Thats a good list.

I dont need all those reasons to use Linux; its only one reason its FREE, I dont need to buy Windows now or use a Pirated one.

Some very valid points there. One more thing they could have added is that linux does not need drivers for most inbuilt hardware like sound/ethernet. Graphics drivers are also a snap to install now a days thanks to restricted driver manager in many distros.

But to me, the single BEST feature in linux that windows sucks at is apt-get. A single click, and you can update ALL the software on your system, without a problem. That is almost impossible on windows.

Yea, Its the most valid point.

   :hap2:

I would have shifted to Linux if it had a good media center like MCE on windows.

you should try mythbuntu.

Its interface desing was ripped off by MS:@

so its very Windows like.
Mythbuntu is an community supported add-on for Ubuntu focused upon setting up a standalone MythTV based PVR system. It can be used to prepare a standalone system or for integration with an existing MythTV network. Unlike similar projects, Mythbuntu keeps close ties with Ubuntu and all development is given back to Ubuntu. This architecture allows simple conversions from a standard desktop to a Mythbuntu machine and vice versa. The development cycle of Mythbuntu closely follows that of Ubuntu, releasing every six months with Ubuntu releases.
