They are easy to drive....and you can drive them straight outta the Sflo2. Its just that amplication would bring out more detail but not tried yet.
No iem upgrade dude. Will be supah broke if I do.

so which one westone 3 or westone um3x or trifile fi 10 or sm3 or ortofon eq7 or monster turbines cooper or gold or senn ie8 should i buy???? leaning towards triple fi 10 as it can be purchased locally from amarbir...please suggest...

sound sig i prefer - punchy bass not boomy , clear and fluid mids with detail and treble not piercing...the bass should not interfere with the mids and mostly it should be comfortable to use for a long period of time....soundstage should be decent and good instrument seperation..

For your query to PM , i will say its better first of all if u can arrange anything locally from here india itself . First prefer that .

If u are ok with international shipping and are aware of the risk of 28% customs duty , thne go for international purchases .

And for the query regarding which IEM among the one's u have listed above i would suggest , if going for local purchase , eyes closed just buy the TRIPLEFI 10 / Senny IE8 . According to ur taste in bass , i would suggest IE8 . I am sure u will like IE8 .

IF going with international buying , then go with the Monster turbine copper = Q7 > Westone 3 > Westone UM3X > SM3 , this is in order of your bass liking .
 
Q7 is bass light.......you just can't play any genre with them and sit there and expect bass to come out. The Um3x has more bass than the Q7. If the name Monster is anything to go by, i'm sure they're the bassiest amongst the ones you mentioned. Haven't tried them though. I might be going to Jaben sometime this week to pick up a hard case for the D5k. Let me know if you want me to try any iem. They have almost all iems you can think of for auditioning. Kinda like mecca for an audiophile.

Hey guys i need your advice on purchasing an IEM.

Budget

$300-350( A friend is coming from US so would be getting it through him)

Music File Type

Flac

320kbps

Music Genre

Jazz - 10%

Trance - 10%

Rock and allied stuff - 80%

I am not found of Bass and i prefer quality over quantity when it come to bass.

So any suggestions?
 
A friend of mine's parent is coming from states. I currently own M2, SFLo2. My question:

1) I want something which is very very better than M2. It should be able to be driven to full potential by SFlo2. My budget 300-350$. Signature preference:
Wide soundstage, nice instrument separation, fluid vocals (if that can be got), highest quality mids, non-sharp treble, textured bass (more on lines of M2).
2) Can the person bring it packed? Will they get caught by customs? Is yes, what to do? What is the safest method to bring it?

Nevermind, i will save and buy customs in coming years.

@ apex - in this price range , best bet is again same for u as for dr.sankhdeep

Consider UM3x , SM3

Apart from these two above , there's a money saver option for u , and thats Radis DDM . will cost u roughly 160$ shipped .

And its one very competent IEM , just get yourself the right fit , try changing tips and u are done !
 
Does Anyone know If ATH-CK10 is available from any reputed/trusted dealers(anymore since its discontinued)? I can see it on Ebay from some japanese Sellers for $300 , but i am a lil bit skeptical about purchasing them :(

A bit more would help.

  • Do you need bass to extend deep?
  • Do you need bass to have enough impact for your Trance music? Or is it enough if drums in rock music sound natural?
  • Are you willing to trade a bit of details for an engaging presentation? Or do you need an analytical IEM?
  • Do you need treble to be aggressive or smooth? Do you value details in treble or are you OK with a slightly rolled off treble?
  • Do you like mids forward or are you ok with recessed mids?
  • Do you need wide sound stage? Or are you ok with a normal soundstage?

Answer all this and then anubhav will search for the particular signature ;)

PS: CK10 is getting difficult to get. Toxic's thread may be the easiest way to procure, I guess.

    I like Details so i guess i would need something Analytical like SM3 since most of my music is in 320/Flac i doubt i would mind the revealing nature of the IEM

the best deal you can get is SM3 for around $320 from soundearphones ...they have 15%off this nov. you have to use a coupon. they ship free to US.

its being said that they have recessed treble , but DFKT's list, lists it as having the best treble ...so, :S , though its new it has very good reviews. i think its a very good option if someone is comming from US (as the soundearphones deal makes it even better!! )

UM3X is also a good option but it cant be found below 400 ( you must always go for removable cable if there is an option )
 
just saw that the UM3X are also available at 399(removalble cable) at SE so using the 15% discunt coupon will also bing thembelow 350 !!

go for UM3X if you want the CK10 imaging, natural sounding IEM.

For ur taste , go with the IE8 , TF10 wont satisfy u on bass notes !

First of all , i am no expert . Santosh sir is pretty senior to me , and knows sound till its origin .

His knowledge and experience is miles ahead then him .

Just being his student , i would say , reading the details u answered above , I will strongly advice u to stay away from CK10 .

That is because it has quality treble with details. May be it just lacks the forward presentation like DBA-02 and RE0. We can only speculate now.

@apex,

From your description, you can look at SM3, FX700.

Lower down, I guess MTPC could be an option to consider.

CK10 has even more aggressive (read: harsh) highs compared to DBA-02. I can only imagine.

The SoundEarPhones coupon is hf15, I guess (Black Friday & Hi-End Headphones - Head-Fi.org Community)

I still have a slight reservation towards UM3X until I hear it myself. It probably has the best separation etc., But, it's a studio monitor, not a consumer IEM.
