We could run above sort of system with a decent 250W power supply :P, but there are no quality PSUs available in that range.

E5200 - 40W, GA-G31M-S2L - 35W, Transcend 2x2GB - 5W, 8600GT - 40W, Seagate 500GB - 18W, Optical Drive - 12W , total approx 150w @ load. Power consumption from mains depends on PSU efficiency, if 60% rated then when components demand 150W, PSU sucks 210W~ from mains.

Dell 1909W typical power consumption operational: 25W

actually i bought my config 10 months ago and there has been a revolutionary change in my computer hardware knowledge.
at that time PSU didn't mater my concern at all...was just"1k ka koi bhi cabnet le lo"
now i have realised that due to inefficiency of my PSU (i think around 50%)..my config eats more than 300w?true?

moreover any cheap PSU suggestions are appreciated:)

cheers,
microsoft

The cheapest bet should be the Zebronics Pro Power 350W or the FSP Saga+ 350W. Retails for 1400 odd and 1650 odd respectively.

To hell with these junk no-name power supplies!

ive been reading this forum very seriously to get an insight into the psu-electricity thing.

i too have an old amd pc that is an electricity hog, which prompted me to buy an atom + mini-itx board system last week for 24/7 downloading. i got a mini-itx cabinet and a converter that allows my cf card to stick to the hard drive slot and act as a hard drive from u.s. and i think the new system takes little electricity, though i cant have something like a kill-a-watt thingie to measure it.

ive a couple of qs regarding elec. cons.
1. ive 2 optical drives which i dont use much. but they're attaced nonetheless. just write dvds when requred. do they hog power just by being attached?

2. my box says "umax". i too bought it with the same "sasta wala koi bhi de do" and i think ive paid a very heavy price for it. any idea how good the psu of "umax" cabinets are? or should i replace it asap?
