I wonder what the mileage of the Jazz is? The liva gives about 18-20 kmpl on highway according to the sales guy. And I can live with the cheap interiors. Here in Guwahati every other car is a Hyundai i10 or i20. Its immensely popular. I want to buy a car that's new and not yet seen much in the roads. I don't want to buy something that a lot of people have. I can do this decision with the Liva because its made by Toyota. Anyone bought it or driven it? Just want first hand feedback.

My City gives about 14kmpl in city and 19 -20kmpl on highway. So jazz will be in similar boat if driven properly. Expect average of 16-17kmpl average. Honda cars are very fuel efficient if driven properly.

But Etios is lighter. It should have excellent fuel economy with the engine it has.

Etios looks horrible to me.

The center dashboard ticks me off.

If you remove the Toyota badge, you can wrongly guess that it is manufactured by Sonalika or some other company with poor quality controls.

Lighter car? I better get K10 alto then :P.

Disclaimer :- My opinion, so go ahead test drive it and decide for yourself.

Well I did test drive it and I liked it. The more one thing that I do not like is the single wiper in the front. It rains a lot where I stay and I am not quite sure that a single wiper can do its job efficiently. Also I don't mind the center dashboard. Though it has a really irritating seat belt reminder.

The thing is, it is cheap. The plastic is horrible. Its same plastic you see on Etios Sedan that you get in Liva. The whole car is made to be cheap and you get what you pay. And you are paying for Toyota reliability when it comes to core mechanical parts. Rest of the car is not great, agreed. The interior quality of Jazz is miles ahead of this one which is currently having massive discount.

Well I am going to buy this car but only if Toyota offers some discount(from looking at the sales I believe they will). If they offera discount of about 80000 bucks across all models it will be a good purchase. The Liva seems to be my only choice for a petrol hatch with its good fuel efficiency. Sure it lacks all the goodies that Hyundai i10 or i20 offers. For just over 50 kms a month and just over 4000kms of driving a year should we go for a diesel hatch?

How many months are there in a year? :bleh:

I was considering the Liva too and would have most likely finalized it if not for the interiors which do feel cheap. i20 on the other hand looks much better from the inside. I am wondering if I should wait another two weeks and have a look at the new Swift.

Though besides the interior everything else felt slightly better than the i20.

I didn't find the interiors cheap at all. Though the i20 offers a lot of goodies at the same price of the Liva.

Don't even think of a diesel with that kinda usage.

What problems will I face if I go for a diesel car? Petrol prices will soon be 100 bucks per litre and at that cost it will be very difficult for us to drive a car.

Skoda Fabia is abother car you can consider.. It's lots of features when we talk about interiors and I am sure the car will fit in your garage & pocket as well :hap2:

according to this site Review: Skoda Fabia 1200cc petrol - Team-BHP fuel efficiency of the Skoda Fabia is 11-12 kmpl. I chose the Liva for its fuel efficiency. The current prices of petrol are already burning a big hole in my pocket.

The glove compartment door is so thin that you can possibly tear it like paper. It looks like a thin grade cheap plastic. Yes you are right, i20 offers more for same price except for fuel efficiency.

About diesel cars I have read that they require very strict maintenance regime, otherwise engine maintenance cost shoots up in long term and engine life suffers. Also it is very susceptible to adulterated fuel. Don't know how much of it is true for current generation of cars.

Ignoring all other costs, just the fact that you will be paying a premium for a diesel car, which, at your rate of usage, would hypothetically take more than 10 years to even out, is not worth going for a diesel.

Well usage may increase. And the way petrol prices are rising it will take much less than 10 years to recover the premium.

I heard the diesel versions of the Etios and the Etios Liva are coming. I guess after the launch of the new swift we may get some discount. Its still too costly for what it offers. Besides for the V model (the one below the top model VX) costs more than 6 lakhs with insurance etc + accessories.

Nah, all it will do is reduce your running cost, but you do pay heavy premium on diesel cars at the moment and its hard to recover unless you have very high mileage annually.

Not to mention the current advantage of diesel pricing may go away soon if diesel pricing is linked to market pricing and subsidies are withdrawn which seems very likely to happen.

The advantage of diesel cars is that they generally tend to offer better mileage than their Petrol counterpart, but here in our country, the diesel cars are priced at premium at the moment. This is not the case in most other developed economies. There people buy diesel for better fuel economy as price of both versions are usually same and hence if you are ready to live with diesel drawbacks, you get better value in long run.

But almost 1L or even more premium on most diesel versions, that advantage is negated here.
