Saw the Toyota Corolla Altis at Forum(Blr) on Friday.
What do you guys think? I think it looks elegant if not sporty and a bit more spacious compared to corolla.
Do you think this is a good step-up from Corolla H2...?
Also please point me to any good video reviews if any... Cant find any video reviews, or for that matter any good review at all..

I have always felt the Civic looks like a large toy.... but the grey/ash/blue Civic look elegant...

Really good value for 14L

Good experience

Good After sale service

Then whats left out

Hmm... I see.

Personally, Civic does not excite me. I prefer elegance more than "sportyness"... For me, the car should have some seriousness abt it.

What I immediately noticed with the Altis is the extra width... The car is considerably wider than the previous Corolla... Its a bit lengthier too... The rear does bear resemblance to the older corollas but it now looks more muscular and defined... The interior theme is similar but overall its even better. The flat rear flooring is another plus.

The best variant of the Altis is the higher end manual. The automatic is actually a waste of cash. The automatic gearbox isn't great either... its a 4 speed so FE will be quite poor.

Altis is a very nice car. Only problem is, it doesnt look as good as the Civic. \

I would suggest the Altis to everyone based on common sense. It has better features than the Honda, will definitely be more comfortable over bad roads and will be more VFM. But everytime I see a Civic with some basic cosmetic mods, I just want one myself so badly!! It looks gorgeous. If only they priced it lower or gave it more features...

saw it at Garuda mall(blr)..
white n red..
exterior looks a lil better than the corolla and the interior is quite good..
performance , not much of an improvement..

I saw it on display at the Bangalore airport a couple of weeks back!!heard someone comment "looks like the corolla has lost some weight" & "why did they shrink the camry this year?"

so at first people will compare the design to a camry!

The new design is definitely a welcome change, the design is a more aerodynamic than the previous one! It looked like the ground clearance was a li'l lower than the previous one!

On a personal note i prefer the civic because u can customize it to your liking! Adding a body kit and a good set of alloy wheels to the car makes a huge difference to the civic!! and it will look like a very good toy! :)

Unless you really *need* the new features, I don't think its much of an upgrade, from an existing Corolla that too! If you are getting a good trade-in, then perhaps you could consider.. since I noticed another Corolla owner upgrading to the new one.

The suspension is still its weak link by being semi-independent, when almost all cars in that segment have independent setups. The older gen wasn't that good over bumps precisely due to that. No idea if the newer one is any better. All said and done, it looks like an evolutionary update rather than revolutionary. Even the engine is exactly the same (which incidentally is not a bad thing).

@Chaos : According to EPA ratings the 4-speed auto on the Corolla is as fuel efficient if not more than the 5-speed auto on the Civic. Plus with 4-speeds, the auto box will hunt less in our chaotic traffic.

The only things the higher end Altis has over the standard verison are 8way electronically adjustable driver seat, Leather seats, HID lights and auto adjusting headlamps(thats useless)... They charge 1.5L premium for this...Its going to be 90% chaffeur driven, so the driver seat thingies are not much useful...besides Leather seats can be bought seperately too...

What else is there for about 15L apart from Civic and Altis...?

I have two old one corolla's..one is automatic and other is manual.

This time we needed one more car so went for altis launch on 24th and bought it same moment, got delivery by 6th sept..which was actually first car out of galaxy toyota , moti nagar.

The car is good, but more sportier than before and I can its like our camry but smaller in size. It looks shrinked camry , nothing else.

I went away with the looks of new corolla, but I still find old corolla more kind of luxury and bold look.

I think we can leave sporty looking thing to civic and corolla should keep it boldness.

The car interiers are sexiest, better than civic (as civic are sportier) . All wooden look, the steering is half wooden from the top which when touched feels sexy.

The automatic of this new corolla is better than old in words of performance and changing gears. Moreover this also works in manual mode but sadly doesn't have sports mode or overdrive off or '2' mode in automatic. I think they want if someone wants speed etc should drive manual..

At the end Corolla is one car in which its hard to find any trouble, I hate that car because it does things pretty well without any hitches.

My oldest corolla of 2003 model has now reached 1 lakh kms and runs fine..been to delhi to goa via road..and i still love the young look of engine.

I hate civic and love corolla...

@coolraghav

Wow...you have that many corollas at home.. Dad was suggesting about taking the altis and leaving the corolla for me, but I thought it'd look pretty silly with more than one corolla at home...morover for now, I want to own a car that I can personally afford to buy and maintain and for now its the Logan for me...

@eddy

nothing...its for dad...he wants to buy something newer... btw my a$$ cant afford the altis for sure :p...I wanted him to buy the Camry but he says its too big and feels guilty pouring that much for a car.

Sat in a Altis the other day. Phenomenal job Toyota has done with the interiors. Very solidly built. As I said to a friend, you simply cannot go wrong with this car, it does the basics perfectly, i.e. Superb ride quality, good handling, super smooth power delivery and A+ service.

If your looking for sportiness or features look elsewhere. Common sense would say the Laura or if you can splurge a bit more, the new Accord (*Droooooooooooools*).
