Car & Bike Toyoto Corolla Altis: What do you guys think?

@vij : I checked out the space in the Alitis with our older car right next to it. 3 of us sat on the rear seat of the Altis and then our car and the difference in space is noticeable.
The Altis maybe a wider on the outside but inside it definately has less headroom n shouldroom although the rear legroom is the same.

And i checked the fuel consumption on the car's mutifunction display....so either display was screwed or the car really doesnt have great fuel economy.
But then this was a new car + a test car so the fuel economy is going to take a hit but i dont think its going to be 12kmpl as claimed by the reps...

The new Accord looks aristocratic but huge size...whether we buy or not..im sure gng to drag my family to test drive it this saturday :p

^ The auto is mind-numbingly good.

They could have tweaked the manual for more torque though. Doesn't really give you the pull, but that baby can rev, push it close to the red-line and it takes off!

Have not yet gone to showroom but more or less locked Embera CRDI.

The dealer is quoting 16.73 on Road. Good price... but wonder if one can push for higher discounts...

Test drove Altis. The car is nice but definitely not exchange worthy for a Corolla owner...

The rear space seems the same...actually with the lower roof it feels bit more cramped compared to the older corolla. The logan has a tad more width on the inside compared to the Altis...That being said the rear space is decent and at par with the older corolla except for the slighty reduced headroom. Styling is decent and contemporary...While they claim 11-12kmpl in city the indicator showed a poor 8.7...

The steering and handing is very good... the flat floor is a welcome addition. The wooden fittings are nice to look at but feels cheaper than it looks...

No stock...It seems Emberra CRDI is not available for display anywhere and upon full confirmation of order they will get it in a container.

I asked for a test drive of atleast petrol Embera and they are dilly dallying me...

Same case with 3 dealers in blr. They dont seem interested in selling this car. I was so so interested... My enthusiasm is wearing off...

Embera CRDI seems a more practical choice. Its a segment higher[although comparable in price]... better backseat comfort/space... Superb CRDI engine...

Personaly I also feel that the Embera has a royal presence... only thing it lacks is snob value. Anyways lets see.

Toyota tried hard to match Civic in terms of design, even sent back the car for redesigning, but alas, could'nt beat the Civic.

Altis is a boring car, more suitable for aged people, its not just a youngsters car. Also, the "hot" factor is missing.

After relentless cajoling, threatening etc etc for more than a week I finally got to test drive the Embera CRDI.

The guy came with a damaged sloppy car as a TD car.

The rear 2/3 of the Embera looks good, the front portion is just average. The car has some weight and seriosuness about it. Reasonably elegant but nothing to rave about. This is one big car... Considerably longer and wider than the Altis or Civic with class leading legroom and width.

Nice suspension. I stretched it to 140 on the highways and the suspensions were good... not firm...slightly floaty...but good to be driven around for sure... The handling has been raved about on team-bhp, but I found it to be slightly iffy at 140 and the sales guy blamed it on the bad state of the TD car and the accidents it suffered... The Turbo lag at slow speeds on the Embera CRDI is very noticeable indeed... its not mild...its there and cant be ignored... but once that hurdle is crossed the acceleration and power is exhilarating... It just pins you and shoots ahead. But the steering appeared light at high speeds? Thats bit scary!

The interiors are bland...poor... that the TD car was super dirty didn't help matters...The tyres are good...Sound isolation inside is excellent.

I dont know what to say...Every defect was met with the excuse that the Test drive vehicle underwent a major accident recently....

I am impressed a bit...but I am not impressed in general...

Your story about Hyundai dealers and their TD cars in pathetic condition seems to ring true down here in Chennai as well. When I had asked for a TD car (a Verna though).. the car was in such bad shape, it never even reached  . The last thing you want to hear when evaluating a car is that their TD car broke down.

This carried on for a few days, till we finally got a TD from another Hyundai dealer - and thankfully the experience here was quite the opposite. Pity that you're having the same issue with all the other dealers :S

I saw it recently on roads here in Mumbai. I don't like the looks at all. A mix of camry and corolla didn't work well for me atleast.

I find Civic & new Accords' design way better :D

I do understand the personal opinion. But if you own altis then you'll get to know how well things it does over civic.

optra magnum :D ?

Brilliant choice I'd say.

I felt all those 133ps of power under the civic's hood is a mere waste after having done a TD of the Magnum. Frikkin awesome diesel engine!!!

Got a real decent FE as well.

Although it may lack the looks of a Civic [and the front might deceive you with the looks of the SRV ], Civic has a pretty bad ground clearance and be prepared for some scrapping underneath, if the rear's loaded.

Comfort's more or less the same in both the cars. But somehow, some peeps get the extra oopmh effect if they're in the Civic. Dunno why. :S

And why cant I spot the newer Accord on the roads?? Fewer ppl own it or what?!?! Its supposedly better than the prev ones.

I am not satisfied with the Embera. So thats off the list.

The Hyundai sales guy told me he can offer 3.5lacs for our spotless super maintained 2005 Corolla H2

Magnum is a top car but moving from Corolla to Optra is almost like going a step down.

Going to TD the Accord this weekend.
