Car & Bike Toyoto Corolla Altis: What do you guys think?

^^Be aware the laura/jetta/audi a4 and anything else on the golf platform are crap cars to be chauffeured around in. Pathetic rear legroom.

well Vij, since u dont like the sportiness of the civic, i am guessing your slightly older than most of us in here, or prolly already thinking in terms of family comfort and stuff, if so definitely the Altis better features than the Civic, and is nice elegant car.

At that price point, as many have already suggested the Laura is brilliant vfm, bear in mind the spares of the skoda are astronomically priced!!! since u considered the Accord, I am guessing the budget upto 20-22L is fine by u?...why not look at the superb also, it has features equivalent to the Merc's.

12-14 - Civic, Altis

15-17 - Camry, Laura, Sonata (great VFM)

18-22 - Accord, Superb

^ If his dad found the Accord to big then Superb is bigger!

And yeah, the rear-seat on the Laura/Jetta is horrible. The Altis does seem like a very good deal, for a chauffeur driven car.

@jasku

yeah I touched 30 this year... beginning to feel old :ashamed:

We will not be going over 18L. So I guess the price itself rules out Superb/Accord/Camry.

Its between Altis and Laura... Is the Altis rear space better than Laura?

Will TD and see...

@chaos

The manual Camry should be around 26lacs.

Any Indian magazine featuring Altis?

^^The Laura won't give more than 16-17 on the highway. Inside the city it will be around 11-12. Where did you get that 24 figure from?

Right chaos. I read that(23.9) somewhere and now when I google your figures look right... It was too good to be true... Edited that post.

You drunk :bleh:. Camry is close to 28lac OTR.
Yea i am a couple large shots of honey bee :) to get rid of this torrid cold and fever! sorry for the wrong info!
I better get some sleep!

get the laura vij..its really nice....why are u not considering the sonata...?

i was thinking the same...but its hyundai na...

I hope Sonata doesnt look big to him... But if he needs rear space he needs bigger car... Simple equation I guess...

Altis looks a safe bet...But Laura and emberra are worth a peek...

^^Interior quality of the embera is absolute rubbish. Check the new embera thread on tbhp. i10 has better interiors than embera.

My dad owns the older Corolla and we were just given a test drive of the new Corolla Altis....this is what i felt abt the new car..

The Altis visually looks smaller than the older car and infact the rear seat is has less of headroom and shoulder room than the older car.
The front seats in the Altis are superb the GL variant has electronically adjustable drivers seat.
There are improvements in many areas in the Altis compared to the older car....the insulation is better...the suspension seems to have gotten better...the gear shift feels much nicer than before(but i feel i still has room for improvement).
Also since the Altis doesnt have the tallish body of the older car and has an improved suspension is feels much better to drive around corners...
The steering mounted audio and multifunction display are pretty good...infact the multifunction display is quite good...displaying fuel consumption and range.
But when i checked the fuel consumption on the test car it was a measely 6.9kmpl....thats not a good sign for sure!! the company reps were claiming upto 12kmpl in the city which i doubt is achievable even with sane driving.

And the engine power has gone up frm 125ps to 132ps (dont know the torquw figures) but there isnt much difference in drivebilty atleast in the city.

Also a nice touch is the almost flat rear floor (its abt an inch raised) so the middle passenger doesnt suffer.

Would i change my dads Corolla for the new one? I dont think so since the rear seat isnt as good as the old car.
Would i want to buy the new Altis? Na i'd rather buy the Civic :D

By the way the new altis on road costed me Rs. 13.88 lakhs. Full payment, we didn't go for emi's etc due high interest rates.

And I read somewhere camry for 28, excuse me we bought on it on road 23 something with 3 years emi & 90% on emiz..

Altis, well better than civic anyday..cmon buy altis only if you going for higher end model. Vij ..come ova to delhi for some test drives.. :p

I don't know how these heavy german cars are more comfortable then toyota's or honda's ..no1 prefer german cars if they cheaper. European cars if bought expensive ones are great or else these laura and jettaa are just ****in twins and nothing else.

Although laura and jetta both would be around 18 lakhs (diesel and AT, or else its no buy) , would be great car but the question is do you really need diesel ? is your run more than 40 KM a day ? ..Diesel car services always cost higher..my Octavia every service cost around 8-12,000 rupees and i can guess for laura too.

Vij, its better you ask someone whose driving these cars...suggestions here seems to be very vague..

To Wraith, the new corolla has more power than old one..dont go for technical thing but their vvti engine is new and optimised i heard so gives more power.

@wraith

I have not test driven it, but I did sit at the back and the rear space feels better for me... With the flat floor and the 60mm additional width it feels wider to me... The older corolla with that height and lesser width did look a tad ungainly...

Daily travel would be to Hoskote Industrial area and back from Whitefield Main road...overall around 40km daily...

Are you serious abt the fuel consumption... The Altis is certainly not in a segment where it can afford to be at under 6.9kmpl...
