^^

Lots of items are tracked by their serial nos. if necessary serious buyers can ask them via mail or something. posting it in public is not advised.

Meh, I can see this is not going anywhere. I'll go to Kaizen Infoserve and see what they have to say. Suppose they tell me I'm SOL, is there any value at all in this device or should I just dump it in the garbage? I guess one of you fellows can have it if you want. That's if it can't be 'repaired' or something.

As for the serial numbers, here you go. I'll still keep the packaging and everything one more day, so feel free to ask. At this point, I am no longer pursuing the matter but when I read threads like these I'm occasionally struck by curiosity so if one of you feels like that, I'll give you any information you want (and that I can reasonably provide).

@arjie ,

First thing, you go to the service centre and get their opinion on this.Ask them to check it for the voltages are fine.The buzzing sound you mentioned, I remember reading sometime back that corsair smps' require pure sine wave a/c input and if your UPS is not providing it then the smps starts humming. Check the smps at the service centre for those buzzing problems. OR you can take the smps to any computer repair shop and tell the fellow to start the smps without connecting any pc components and check for the buzzing at his place.

Even if someone tries to peek into the smps by using bruteforce, and manages to dislodge any internal component, the damn thing wont even power up. So I feel it might be your power supply which is at fault here.

Also even if something blows up in it, there will be absolute no damage to the exterior container.Its really built like a tank, and the stuff which has the tendency to blow up are capacitors, but since they are designed to blow up in a certain way, they cause no damage, just a crack on top of them along the fracture zone.So its definitely someone trying to pry it open.

If worst comes to worst then I suggest split the loss with deep_nx. Send him the smps back and get half of your sum returned back. That depends on how deep_nx wants to sort out this thing too.

Not taking any sides- pointless and maybe misleading.

arjie- put the psu on the bed, the slim bent side facing upwards. press with palm, using body weight or sit on it- till it looks as less bent as possible. Submit to service centre with a very straight face. (i didn't say this)

Hello, vishal2055, I have the same buzzing sound when connected directly to mains. I suspected it was this Active PFC business people talk about and so tried it directly connected to the mains. I'll have it tested at the service center.

TheSorcerer, that's what I'm thinking of doing. Monday sounds good.

BIKeINSTEIN, ha ha. I'm afraid I might damage it more. The thing is, they have these little tabs, which seem to be folded in. Since I don't know how they look undamaged, I don't want to risk making it look even more messed up.

Just thought I should give some closure to this business. I took the PSU recently as it was and as you people saw it to Kaizen Infoserve in Chintadripet, Chennai. They took it without complaint and 3 days later I found a CX430v2 in the mail. It isn't the same (and some googling says it might be a bit inferior to the CX400) but I'm glad they replaced it because the other one was certainly not functional. If anything, this has convinced me that my next PSU will be a Corsair straight from the store.

Thats good. CX430 V2 is good enough. You have learnt a lesson that better to take a new product from the shop itself by paying a few extra bucks :)

Indeed, Chirag. Lesson learned.

Yep, bottle, for my needs this should be sufficient. I'm happy with the result and as far as I'm concerned this thread has run its course and needs no further discussion. If you would like to close it so it doesn't get bumped above more current issues, that's fine by me.
