Midway, Epic, and Sony announced that they had inked a deal to bring Unreal Tournament to the PC and Playstation 3 later this year. This deal was announced as an "exclusive" one implying that only these platforms were to see the latest version. Designers announced that a new interface will give gamers a chance to port their PC mods to the PS3 and play in a multiplayer enviroment.

"We feel very confident that Unreal Tournament 3 will continue to deliver on Epic's promise to gamers to develop only the highest quality titles using our cutting-edge Unreal Engine 3 technology," said Mark Rein, vice president and co-founder, Epic Games. "The game takes full advantage of the power of the PLAYSTATION 3 system, and Unreal Tournament 3 will for the first time allow users to create robust user created content, known as "mods", on the PC version and play them on the PLAYSTATION 3 system. We're extremely excited about this and we feel this will bring a level of creativity, innovation and replayability not previously seen on home consoles."

Unreal Tournament III gets Oz release date

The PS3 may not be seeing Gears of War anytime soon , but it will see exclusively (unless you count the PC version) the other Epic developed frag-fest, Unreal Tournament III this year.

Publisher Midway has announced that the popular first person franchise Unreal Tournament III will arrive for PS3 and PC owners late November 2007.

UT III will be the powerhouse behind many 2008 AAA titled games, and is looking spectacular in its own right.

Interestingly with the release of UT III on the console platform, Epic are looking at attempting a cross over platform integration in what looks like Microsoft’s Live, well Live-lite at least.

From the press release: For the first time ever, Playstation 3 owners and PC users will be able to exchange content online. We’re talking about trading multiplayer maps and custom game modes, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg! PC gamers will be able to create their own content (or mods) and then play them on the Playstation 3. Nothing like a high intensity frag for all to bring people together. Gamers of the world unite under UT3’s banner!

Unreal Tournament III is scheduled for release in the Australian retail market late November 2007, on Playstation 3 and PC. This game is yet to be classified by the Office of Film and Literature Classification.
