Hey all, so as above, I run a system with Ryzen 5 3400G, and a 1060 6gb and it is showing its age in most games. It was built in September 2020 so it's been a while. The target is 60fps 1080p, medium high in most games, like GoW Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Last of Us Part 2, etc. I'd mainly be upgrading the CPU and the GPU. I'd probably buy second-hand from here or new from reliable sellers online (Prime, MD, etc.) (or I can buy things here using ebay.de) in August, since I'll be home then. It's a relatively modest upgrade, and I'd like to keep things as low as possible, price-wise. I am open to suggestions.

I'll probably be recycling the parts (3400G and 1060 6GB) for a pure Valorant build to take with me when I do leave in September or sometime then. I think it's still good enough for most esports titles.

So mobo might be fine with bios flash but if you go for new 3060 and 5600 that itself would eat up to somewhere around 33-35k if you go for new on any of the sites you mentioned. Used yes i’ve seen 3060 used to as low as 15-17k but chances are it might still come around 30k .

Is 3060 12GB better or 4060ti 16GB better?

Since gaming is your primary objective, my advice is just to upgrade step wise.
1. Upgrade monitor to a 120 or 160 Hz Monitor. Difference between 60 and 120 Hz will be night and day specially in valorant. Check if 1060 6GB is able to push 120 Hz at 1080p in your target games. Suppose it does, nothing else needs to be done.
2. If not, look at upgrading the graphics card. Get whatever is in your budget. 3060Ti, 4060TI, 6800XT etc.

In my opinion, CPU and motherboard upgrade is not required. 4 core 8 threat 3400G should be fine for now.

If looking for an even better experience in gaming, get a 1440p, 120Hz monitor first. 1060 will most probably fall short in some games, so upgrade to 3060TI, 4060TI or whatever. 3400G will be even less bottleneck at 1440p gaming.

So if I understood correctly, you need two builds 6 months down the line - #1 for Valo with 3400G+1060 and #2 with firepower to play mentioned games in 1080p60. Do you have separate budget for recycled build? For the build #2, you would buy parts only in August?

Is 3060 12GB better or 4060ti 16GB better?
Imho 4060ti 16gb obviously much better DlSS and framegen that can easily handle 1440p atleast in high settings. But for a huge dent in the pocket than 3060.
But if i were to choose something in between i might go for RX 7600xt. Though 4060 might be 10-15% better in terms of performance it sits at around 31k brand new with 16gb vram. Or a used 7700xt .

If you want to use Gen4 M.2 & Super M.2 for Wifi E key then you need to upgrade to above Asrock mobo or else no need just you need to update the bios of your present mobo to support 5600.
I don't think I'd move to a Gen4 M.2. As much as having the latest and greatest sounds nice to have, it's not a 'must-have' for me personally. I'll probably perform a simple BIOS update. Thanks though.

Are GPU prices bad right now or am I that much out of touch? ;-; I thought the 4060 sells for around that price. I would go down the used route here or enquire local shops in Chennai once I go back.

1. Yeah, my monitor is already a 165Hz monitor like I mentioned. With the current setup, I am getting about 100, 120fps, which you could say is fine but I'd like to have at least 200fps since with every update Riot pushes, the performance goes down.
2. Yeah, might go for any of those if it's in my budget.

I did have a question. Aren't most e-sports games CPU heavy? I assume AAA titles like the ones I mentioned rely more on the GPU? Would an RTX 2070 Super or something also suffice? Yes, it's old but tbh, I never gave the AMD cards any thought.

As for 1440p, I dunno, it's not a necessity right now. Would I like my system to probably support it? Maybe, but right now, I am really happy with 1080p. For context, till 2020, I've been gaming on 768p and around 30fps on low settings, especially on CSGO (we've all been there, right?) Right now 1080p60fps hits the sweet spot for me. :)

Sort of, just that I am replacing the GPU and CPU in my current PC to something else to support 1080p60fps medium-high settings, which will be in August, most likely. I'll be using the 3400g and 1060 in another build later down the line when I take it with me. I'll probably cross that bridge when I get to it. :grimacing:

Hmm, Might go for 7600xt (if it exists, I haven't kept up with the news in so long so please feel free to correct me)

With the kind of budget you have can only upgrade processor and GPU and that would be fine for your use case. Ryzen 5600 is the most value for money processor for B450 motherboard right now. I myself upgraded from a GTX 1060 6GB to a RTX 3070 so I can recommend the same to you.
New 5600 = 9.4k rs
Used RTX 3070 = 17k rs

If that happen to be just outside of your budget then you can opt for a used 3060 TI at approx 15k-16k instead.

Your current motherboard is fine but that 450W PSU might be in a tight spot considering 3070 alone uses 270watt but that can be fixed with a slight undervolt and max power limit set through MSI afterburner. You will lose a few percentage of performance but it will still be miles ahead of say having a 5600 + 3060 combo.
After upgrading you can sell the older processor and GPU which will get you 6-7k rupees back, well enough to get a new gold rated 600-700W PSU for that money.

Is a mobo upgrade necessary? Trying to get away without one
Not necessary.. gen3 vs gen4 upgrade is not noticable especially if you using x16 lane cards like rtx 3060.. x8 lane cards like amd Radeon is noticable. Also gen4 ssd can run on gen3. I think its not much of an issue because the peak speed, it doesn't matter anyways of SSD. Any high end ssd random read write can as low as 200MBps..
Also i must say, cpu upgrade will give you a massive fps boost in multiplayer games especially 1% and 0.1% lows. Which means more stable experience..
