Need to buy a vacuum cleaner after much thought. Main purpose is to remove the built up dust in mattress made of cotton. Did think of getting the mattress up to the terrace and hit it with a wooden stick to remove the dust but the mattress is too heavy. Must be weighing around 30Kgs or something.

Budget is around 3-4k max. No brand preference as main purpose is to get the job done. Need 1000w or less power drawing unit as I don't want a huge electric bill.

Even if you do vaccum it still not going to be as clean as dusting it, besides its still better to let it roast in direct sun light many germs and insects, bugs will be killed.

In vacuum cleaners higher the suction the better,so its better to get a powerfull one which is above 1000 watt. Its not going to be used daily. If a 1000watt vacuum cleaner is used non stop for a hour,it will add a max of Rs 6 depending on what your slab rates.

true about roasting it in sunlight and killing germs and whatnot, but even two people cannot lift that heavy mattress properly. Its a huge double bed mattress and the bugger who made it, made it in one fat heavy piece instead of two light pieces.

While browsing, i found on the eureka forbes site, it has a tiny hand held one - Euroclean Bravo of 800 watts & 1880 mm/wc suction. Is this a good one? (Cause this is the only one within the 4k range, rest are all around 7.7--8k for 1400watts and 2200-2450 mm/wc suction.)

If you suggest to get a higher suction vacuum, anything particular you have in mind which i should buy?

How old is it? If it is 5-6 year old then your mattress may need dhunai(carding). Carding will kill the germs and your mattress will be like new. Ask any local carding shop, they will send their labour to pick your mattress for the job.

For the vacuum cleaner, I suggest you first ask for the demo @ your home and then decide.

I bought a Jaipan 800watts for 1200/- from ebay sometimes back to clean the ashes near to my bed and table lol... But that is good cleaner with 1 year warranty I guess.. Its good as it is. Cleaned keyboard/senns Pads etc etc. If more area needs to be covered than recommend atleast 1000 watts.

Well i have a 800 watt model its not listed in EF website since its outdated.I always feel the need for more suction power. My friend has a 1400watt Euro clean ACE haven't checked the suction but its blows with a lot more force then my 800watt and should have better suction.Again all these vacuum cleaners can only suck the dust from the surface ,i still give the mattress a good spanking and quite lot of dust comes out even after vacuuming them.

EF is a well know atleast for vacuum cleaners and are quite reliable. No idea about other brands

Two people can actually lift them out of the cot and then drag them, cover them with a old bedsheet and drag them and just wash the old bedsheet.of course if it has to be dragged to the terrace it will be PIA it will need 3 people and if its apartment then forget it,unless you are on the last floor.

yup, its more than 6-7 years old. Didn't do any carding to it in this time.

Seems I'll have to ask for a demo of the unit.

@adder, I'm on the second floor and terrace is on 4th floor. Too much PIA to even take it out of the room. I tried to fold it in half along the shorter length, but it becomes impossible to lift it, forget even taking it out of the bedroom door. After trying to lift that thing, lifting up a filled gas cylinder seems much easier.

I've got a 1400 or 1600 watt LG vacum cleaner, and that just about manages to clean my carpet. I doubt a sub 1000watt one will manage to clean out your mattress.
If you're buying one just for your mattress, then my advice would be to pay a servant in your building 50 or 100 bucks and have them beat it for you for 1 hour.

^ hijack all you want. :)

^ what's the suction capacity mentioned of your LG vc? On their site they haven't mentioned the suction capacity in pascals or mm/wc. They are just giving the power consumption of the motor or pump in watts. Also they have only two models. One of those models suction motor/pump consumes around 350 watts of power, whereas the model consumes around 1400+ watts. Where does the extra wattage go?

Well there is only one motor which is rated at 1800watt,their 350watt calculation is probably the suction power in terms of watt.
These are bag less type ones,i am not sure they have a blower function.

Look for Croma - I got one for Rs.3500/- 7months back. Does a fine job of cleaning my sofa. Beleive it is 1000-1200Watts. There is sale going on everywhere you look, just browse you might get a better deal.

@adder, just wanted to confirm one thing - while choosing a vc, i should get one with higher suction capacity right?
Yes thats correct, but it may not always have the same blowing capacity as well.

@falcon
Does the croma AV00025 have a blower function? .
