iOS Verizon iPhone 4S

Hello folks

Have a doubt on Verizon iPhone 4S. iPhone 4S has same model for GSM as well as CDMA. Verizon allows unlocking of GSM part when people travel outside US, enabling use of international SIM cards for lesser costs during roaming.
Now is it possible to use a Verizon iPhone unlocked in above manner in India because in that manner it will be roaming here in US.

My doubt might sound very noobish.
 
yes, a verizon iphone 4s works perfectly fine in india provided it has been unlocked for international use by them. Same is the case for sprint iphone 4s

Thanks for replying. It means one can get iPhone 4S unlocked permanently in this manner. I have read same on apple support forum. However some people had also posted that, if it detects CDMA network it will pick it up (CDMA) ignoring GSM network. Hence I m in doubt here.

I was tempted as I saw Verizon iPhone 4S devices selling for around $220-250 (13.2-15K) range at eBay.com. So if somebody can bring it here then iPhone 4S for 15K.

Anybody in forum using in this manner ?

Yes. I'm using 4s Sprint UNLOCKED.[DOUBLEPOST=1375377044][/DOUBLEPOST]Currently running it on iOS 7 with no prob. no signal loss nothing. I feel like having an Factory unlocked device :P

Hi,
Unlocking a verizon iphone 4s for a non-verizon customer is very costly. you need to have a active verizon account and good standing with them for them to process the international sim unlock on the 4s, is also requires you to buy a clean ESN phone.
same goes for sprint. if the phone is mentioned as unlcoked for international use, then you surely wont be able to get it for cheap.
 
I guess I need to put scenario in more detail.

Son has Verizon 4S. He is using it. He has satisfied all those conditions such as Good Standing, 60 days, etc. He now asks Verizon to unlock GSM part of his phone with a reason of international travel/trip. However in reality he wants this so his dad in India can use phone with Vodafone or Airtel or any GSM service provider. Son himself does all unlocking part with his line.

In this case I guess there are no fees from Verizon. Is this possible ? This is my doubt with imaginary characters :P

Please correct me if I m wrong.

yes! thats possible. you can do it that way, ask you son to get it unlocked from verizon and you can then use it here.
 
after reading your thread I am also very much interested in buying a Iphone 4s after searching several listings on ebay.com confused which would be a good one for purchase so do let us know which one you bought....

Buy any iPhone 4s Sprint or Verizon LOCK then buy R-Sim to UNLOCK it.

Right now in different mind and with lot of confusions. Also noone coming from US before November, so this might not be a route for me. Might buy a Lumia 720 for brother and use his iPhone 4, after trying out L720 of a friend tomo. Else wait game till September. But in any case will let you know.
