My configuration :
Phenom X4 B55 @3.2 Ghz (Unlocked from X2)
Biostar TA790GXBE
Corsair 4GB DDRII
XFX HD5770

Sometimes, while watching a movie/video the video part freezes for about 3-4 seconds and then very fast plays all the content which was supposed to be played when it froze while the audio keeps on playing (does not freeze, but sometimes even the audio doesn't play)
This problem is only while watching a video, never happens otherwise like playing a game etc. I first thought that it was a problem with some of my LOST episodes but that doesn't seem to be.

What could be the reason for this? I have checked my unlocked proccy for stability with prime95 overnight, and the results were okay..I don't get this problem while playing a demanding game.

seems like some problem with audio/video codec.

try to uninstall the current one & install others like coreAVC/vista codec/win7 codecs.

Try Media Player Classic Home Cinema.

Also see if your CPU is locked to 800MHZ or something. I had similar stuttering issue. It was because I accidently enabled power saving mode in my EPU engine (Asus Motherboard) which keeps my CPU underclocked everytime.

All of this did not use to happen before I upgraded to my current motherboard+proccy two months back so I highly doubt its because of faulty codecs/video player

^^ Can you try the uninstall & install thing so that we can be 101 % sure that there is no problem with codecs unless you already did.

Win 7 ?

I also faced same problem, This had to do with WinSAT (Windows System Assessment Tool), it keeps running in the background from time to time automatically when PC is idle. To find the problem process, open Task Manager and make a note of which process is eating CPU cycles. When you know which process is causing the problem, gather more information about that process.

If its WinSAT, then prevent it from running automatically in future. Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler > Microsoft\Windows\Maintenance, and Disable the task named "WinSAT"

Which is your PSU? Try decreasing the load by going back to X2 and removing the GPU for now.

EDIT: Didnt notice you not having problems with gameplays. So definately not a PSU issue.

Well, my PSU is VX450 so no issues there :)

And I have a K-Lite codec pack btw...will try re-installing it

WinSAT.exe is process. Open Task Manager next time you face above problem. Anyways disable it and watch movie/video and let us know. It takes 30 sec man !

WUDFhost.exe (Windows Driver Foundation - User mode Driver firmware Host Process) , svchost.exe etc keep cycling from 0 to some CPU load

Yeah, I thought that only if it were causing a problem should I disable this, but let me disable it anyways..I seriously hope that the problem is software related

Done :) Hope it solves the issue..

My problem still remains (I have also upgraded the codecs) but the freeze duration is smaller now atleast.

BTW any way to test RAM other than memtest ? (Without having to shut Windows)
