Hi guys i am planning to get a AC and i want to get user opinions about the Voltas Vertis Classic 1.0 T.

Room Size : 12 x 11 x 10 (L*B*H)

Two sides of the room will get sunlight (South, west). There is a window in the South Side) and its open terrace above the room.

Will a 1.0 T AC suffice? 2-3 ppl will use the room.

AC will be used for ~6 hrs daily in the summer months (~4-5 months) so i guess not much of a difference between 2 and 5 star ratings. A decent remote with timer, sleep mode function settings will be better.

Dealers at my place have Voltas, Samsung and LG ACs only and i decided to go with this one. Is it a good choice or there better models?

Budget : 20k all inclusive. Can stretch a bit (~3-4k more) if i get a really better one.
Quote for Voltas Vertis Classic 1.0 T is 21k (Including installation and stabilizer)

TIA :)

i have this AC. Seeing your room details, i think it will just about cut it but you should ideally go for 1.5.

I am guessing your room gets quite hot in summers so at 22 - 24 degrees , it should cool in 30 to 45 mins.

Check out the Panasonic CUBE AC. I beleive 1.25T will do the trick.
I dont trustthe star rating - beleive its just a marketing trick to charge double for a slightly more effecient machine.

To make your air-conditioning more efficient do this:
1.Paint the terrace White, if you can.
2. Use thick curtains, it helps to keep the heat out.
3.Change your windows to UPVC - double glazed ones. It will let in the sunlight, but prevent a lot of heat from entering the room.
Heres a link to UPVC windows: UPVC Windows, uPVC window system,Double Glazed UPVC window & door
Its just an example, lookout for local suppliers in your area.

Happy Air-conditioning ! :)

Atleast 1.5T is required for the dimensions of your room. I recently bought a Voltas Vertis Plus S 1.5T for 24,500 (installation included but no stabilizer).

Since you're in TN, I won't recommend Voltas. It might have a poorer service there. Since I am in Jamshedpur & almost all AC's here are of Voltas (including in buildings & offices of TATA Steel), so I get a good service here. I have heard that Voltas service sucks in other parts of India.

The best & most efficient AC's come from Hitachi but are pretty expensive. Also look out for Panasonic, Samsung, etc.

Take a look at this thread - http://www.techenclave.com/consumer-electronics/suggestions-for-1-ton-split-ac-183612.html

A month back, I was in the same boat as you were. Decided on the Panasonic Cube 1.2T AC and I am quite satisfied with the investment. Looking at your room dimensions, this should be sufficient. And it has everything you've asked for - remote with timer, sleep mode functionality.

Do enquire if your locality has a Panasonic dealer and they should be stocking this newly launched unit. :)

The star rating sticker also mentions the actual energy conversion ratio of the specific model. Last I checked, a 5 star Voltas Vertis Gold's ratio was way lower than what a similar 5 Star O'General's ratio was. The price difference was also evident with O'General being about 40% costlier.

The star rating is indicative of how much power you will be using when the equipment is used. If you get a higher star rating, then over a period of time you will have savings in your electricity bill. You will not be able to recover the premium you pay for a 5 Star over a 2 Star but since you are using less energy, you are contributing for the 'war against global warming' :P

If you are using the AC for only ~6hrs, the 2 Star one will do just fine. OTOH if you plan to use it 24x7, buy a 5 Star model, you will probably end up saving on the electricity bills. Same is true for any appliance with a Star rating like a refridgerator etc.

TL;DR
usage ~6hrs a day - ignore Star rating. save on initial investment.
usage 24x7 - get a 5 Star. save on long term energy bills.

Yeah i had gone through your thread earlier but i dont think i will get panny locally :( (Small town) Only LG, Voltas and Samsung. Will try dealers from near by cities.

@ The_Falcon, pr0ing, pauldmps - Thanks for your valuable input guys. :)

Edit: Dealer n/w says Vasanthi & Co might have it :P If they have will get the Cube. Seems like cheap and best one for my usage!

^And the Cube seems like an overkill for my room. Despite setting the AC at 25'C, I end up switching it off after 4 hours. The fan is running at all times.

Have u installed UPVC windows ?? How much did it cost you ? Did u hire local people for the installation or the company installation is provided with windows purchase ?

No I dont have them currently, but I know they are very good at thermal insulation from my experience in UK. Will be shifting to new house in Sep-Dec, will be installing it there.

You cant hire local people for it; the company who makes those will also install it for you. Normally the installation cost is included in the package.

Panasonic CUBE 1.25T is available locally in Vasanth and Co for 17.5k (Including Installation and Stabilzer -> Not sure of stabilizer model no. though!)
Panasonic CUBE 1.5T is available locally in Vasanth and Co for 20.5k (Including Installation and Stabilzer -> Not sure of stabilizer model no. though!)

So considering my room dimensions (Room Size : 12 x 11 x 10 (L*B*H)) i guess 1.25T would be ideal. More comments on this please.
One more important change. Now decided to install the AC in the identical ground floor room. So there is a room above and only the South-West facing wall recieves direct sunlight. All other walls under shade.

@Gannu - What is your opinion buddy? Going by your experiences i think this model would suit me fine. Any more comments on the AC after extended usage now of about a month? Is it proving sufficient considering peak summer is approaching?

^Go for it. This AC seemed like it was one of those better investments I've made in a while. :)

In my case, I've paid 16k for the unit inc. of installation charges. And another 1.5k for the V-Guard VG-400 stabiliser. And roughly close to 600~650 for the wiring, switch and other misc. accessories.

If this is going to be installed on a room beneath the terrace (if you change the decision later i.e), I'd advise you to white-wash the area on the terrace above this room. I did the same and it did lower the heat inside the room during the evening.

Thanks Gannu :) I am also planning to get a V-Guard stabilizer. Pricing also seems good considering mine is a small town. Mostly might pick it up by weekend.

^If you are unable to find a distri for the V-Guard stabiliser in your town, drop a mail to:

Code:
mail@vguard.in

Alternately, find the nearest retailer from here: Contact : V-Guard | Ceiling Fan, Water Pump, Voltage Stabilizers | Wire Manufacturer

I did the same since Surat wasn't mentioned in the list and within an hour, I got a positive response from them. Spoke to the distri and he delivered the stabiliser at my home without any extra charges. Paid for it like the COD. Prompt service I must say. :)

Post your impressions on the unit, once you have it installed.

^Thanks again. Will post impressions once i get it installed :)

Dealer is offering Premier Stabilzer. V Guard not available. (We had to source it from near by town for our LCD :() I guess premier is also decent enough right?

Hey did you drop a mail to V-Guard? I am sure Pudukottai will have a dealer for V-Guard. Better still, they will refer you to a dealer.

Not yet. Just wanted to know opinion on Premier since i have been seeing their adds for a long time.
Once my parents went to shop to look the AC Vasanth and Co said price is 18.1k!! (15.7k for unit+1k installation+ 1.4k Stabilizer) Then when my parents said the price quoted on phone was 17.5k he agreed to give it for same price :P
Just that parents are preferring to get everything from same place since the dealer himself is offering a decent combo price. If Premier is not great then definitely will go for V-Guard, else if premier is decent might stick with it.

Premier is a decent stabilizer, from what I have experienced. It was bought along with my window a/c almost 3 years ago, and it's been doing its job perfectly well. I think it should be fine, if you are not able to get a V-Guard, although it is surpising that V-Guard isn't available at Pudukottai. I always thought they had almost complete coverage in TN.

Thanks :) Dealer is offering Premier EXCEL 4KVA for 1.4k. What bothers me is the i/p range is low :( (Input : 185V - 265V.)

We didn't have V Guard LCD Stabilizer in my place. Got it when we went to Trichy (Decent sized city) Trying to find VGuard AC Stabilizer locally.
