Waiting List Vs PQWL

From my station, I had WL of 76 and from the station previous to me it was WL of 47. So I booked from the previous station and changed the boarding point to my station. but the WL has been named as Pooled QUOTA WL.

Will my tickets get confirmed before 76 ( the number if I had booked at my station) ?

There are many sites which tell you the expectancy of whether your ticket will get confirmed or RAC... Infact I think irctc itself shows possible confirmations for the current waiting list.

These days IRCTC has a CNF probability for WL tickets in the train select screen. A sleeper ticket with WL 47 & still 4 weeks remaining might still get CNF, but AC, I highly doubt for that time frame.

You never posted the time remaining till the travel date as that also matters a lot.

sleeper class ticket
treat it as a generic question, which gets confirmed first.

I am not curious about this journey alone, but booking from the previous station as a principle to reduce WL

If you pose your question as generic the reply may not help your case.

Pooled quota waiting list is waiting list against quota of several intermediate stations pooled together. The chances of confirmation of pooled quota waiting list is usually low compared to normal W/L or RLW/L.

Booking from the previous station helps if the previous station waiting list is being operated as source location waiting List.

Was booking a Tatkal ticket on AC had available 1 seat....was quickly booking it when that stupid SBI loyalty page came in. I pressed and then it took forever to go through it . In Meantime lost that ticket.

Then waited another hour and tried booking Sleeper class. Had Available-60 tickets
Quickly went through the process as fast I could with all details and cc ready....the damn page kept takings it own time and now I am in Tatkal waiting list 24.

I thought Tatkal tickets dont go to waiting list. they either get fully booked or they are not further processed at all.

What is going on with Indian Railways.....itna faltu service in 5th largest economy of a service that is so so important to millions every day. I mean I am not asking anything special but its a very basic thing to atleast let the person know if he is confirmed or not ...if not for anything else atleast for Tatkal quota.
You anyways dont refund any amount for confirmed tatkal tickets so why is the need to have waitling list for Tatkal too.

Sorry for the rant but this is genuine thought....almost everything in this country is too messed up.

In anycase now requested someone who has connection with some one in govt. service to see if they can help me.

population ;), I have stopped using trains almost exclusively, and when I do need to book, I go to a broker for my tickets, they have guys even on station too who can bribe/do whatever to get your tickets, costs me 500rs extra, but the piece of mind is worth it whenever I do need to book once in a blue moon

Surely you mean largest population..

Bhai woh sab thik hai but atleast bata toh do seat hai ki nahi ...yeh confusion kyuon for even tatkal.

What is the need to have waiting list for Tatkal.

This is because there are people who book tatkal tickets, then cancel them.

Since Railways can't lose a seat, (or looking optimistically, Railways wants to help a passenger reach their destination) they have the waiting list for Tatkal too.

After chart preparation (3 hours before departure) if it is still waiting list, you're eligible for a full refund.

The reason Tatkal came into picture was allow last moment people travelling to get a confirm ticket.

There is no refund for confirmed Tatkal tickets so railways don't loose anything.

Incase a confirmed Tatkal ticket traveller does not travel. Railways does not loose any money. Instead it can always give that seat to people who board the train on running tickets or come for booking last moment 4 hrs before.

This is just inconvenience and nothing else.

I know it does not help your case, but Tatkal wait listed tickets are eligible for full refund if not confirmed.
As others have stated, if you frequent trains then it is not a bad idea to get hold of an agent.

Every class of ticket cannot be put in such uncertain scenario . That is my point.

They brought Tatkal idea for this very reason to help last moment travellers get confirmed ticket.

Otherwise if even this quota of ticket will also have to be in waiting list then what was the need. They could have continued to allow a person to book a ticket In Waiting list and try their luck.

They charge you Rs 250/150 for Tatkal on AC/Sleeper only to again put most of us in waiting list .

Isnt it obvious that is just another scam in the name of helping passengers.

I agree to your point. I don't know what prompted them to do this. It cannot be revenue since they do not gain anything by doing this. Too many confirmed Tatkal cancellations ? Maybe. I also read that if an extra coach is added to a particular train, then preference would be given to wait-listed Tatkal ticket holders over other wait-listed passengers.

They do go to waiting list. You have the option to only get confirmed tickets, you have to choose "book only if confirm births are allotted" from booking options.

There's just too much demand for train tickets, it's the standard mode of travel for long distance for many people. Even then the condition of the trains are just bad, i could spot lots of small cockroaches under seats in 3AC.
