note : - sorry but i have used a sms word in the topic by mistake and i dont know how to edit the topic name

ICICI would be the best for you with the loads of associated services they offer also look out for AXIS bank they also offer good services

Dude however much these private banks entice you with ads on TV, I suggest that you get anaccount with SBI bank, that is the best. lowest charges and max features and facilities.

you will not go wrong.

these private banks like icici and hdfc etc just fleece the customer and have a minimu, balance of Rs. 10000/- in the account.

i have 2 a/c in ICICI one is zero balance(corporate) and other one is min 1000 rs balance account...also in SBI too you have to maintain a minimum balance of 500 rs

Go for SBI, don't look elsewhere. Most here would agree, that we have made a big mistake by having an account in a private bank, I dread it to date. Anyway, go for SBI IMO.

^^

SBI is the good. Works like an address proof too.

No choice. Companies open salary accounts in such banks.

hey bro the student account scheme in ICICI bank needs a minimum balance of rs 500 only

hmm looks like SBI is very good

i thought sbi would be a very bad bank for services because it is a government bank right ?

but do SBI bank offer internet banking and debit card ????

^ SBI offers everything, don't worry. You will have a problem only when you need to go their branch, but even that is much better now than it was even till a year back.

If you are a ebay shopper or would like to buy from them, then ICICI or HDFC is better as they are recognised ebay banking partners for paisa pay.

IMO, go for HDFC.

Go for SBI only if you want the safest and cheapest bank account to maintain. If you want good online/phone/ATM banking or fast responsiveness go for a private bank.

SBI can be pretty lazy and clueless when it comes to providing prompt service when you have to deal with them from anywhere other than being physically present at the bank counter. Their Credit Card services and associated Customer Care operate the same way.

I once ordered RAM directly from Memory configurator UK using an SBI Credit Card. Their policy includes verifying the credit card details from the issuing Bank and they faxed SBI for the same and kept waiting for a confirmation which they never got. When I learned about the issue, I called up SBI, but they were totally clueless and they did not even understand the issue. Finally MemC used contacts at their own bank in UK to get the credit card details verified and shipped out the order. We have had similar issues with bank accounts that my Mom has.

So if you want prompt responsiveness from a bank for any reason, then SBI is not for you.

The one thing I love about ICICI is that you can do almost everything related to your account through their customer care, no need to visit the branch at all.

Whereas SBI for each and every small thing you need to visit your own branch, whereas in ICICI etc if at all you need to visit the branch to get something done, you can visit any branch in India and its the same.

Actually depends on the branch...

The one i have my account is goddamn fast!

If you want to do online shopping...go for ICICI/HDFC bank account...they also give VISA debit card...SBI gives Maestro card...which is not accepted online...

Go for SBI. They also have student account scheme you can check that or you may get a general savings account too. Very easy to maintain and hassle free.
Sbi provides yuva visa debit card to students which can be used on any "verified by visa" website. Hope this helps.

Congrats on turning 18. First of all check with you parents, if they have existing account in any private/nationalised bank make sure you either open an account with that first. Trust me it helps a lot. For all the online shopping thing open a Zero Balance ICICI branch free account.

For the benefits of account in same bank and branch in huge. Will surely list it out in the meantime after you tell us the existing bank where your parents deal.

Can you tell me my friend where is the maestro not accepted ?
When I spoke about SBI, I said so as I have account in HDFC and ICICI, the amount of money they charge is abnormal, if somebody deposits cash in other city to your account then they will charge more than SBI and so on..
SBI has all the details online too, you can do whatever you can with other banks online acility.
