41-50k Want a PC for Video Editing and Motion Graphics

TLDR: Need a PC to edit videos on. Don't need a GPU. Preferring Intel i5 + DDR5. Need large storage - SSD to edit off of and HDD to keep footage.

    • CPU - Intel i5 12400 (Not F since I'm not picking up a graphic card right now)
      • Preferring Intel because (i) Have a good history with Intel (ii) I'll be using premiere and I read that Premiere is optimized for Intel.
    • Motherboard - any compatible motherboard
      • Want to try to build a DDR5 compatible PC, But don't know if the additional cost of DDR5 will be useful for Video editing
    • GPU - Skipping, Will pick up later as I upgrade
    • RAM - DDR5 (Or DDR4 if the upgrade is not worth the price increase)
    • SSD - 1TB
    • HDD - 1TB or more based on budget

Thanks, I like this starting point.
What if I add a graphic card and use DDR4 instead. I'd have to expand my budget by 10K and cheap out on the motherboard but I would be able to squeeze in a 3060 12GB variant. Something like this.

But I have a few questions around it:
  • Will DDR5 give me "significant" performance boost as compared to DDR4 using the Adobe suite ?
  • Will GPU benefit me in any way considering gaming is not my primary concern (but good to have :P)
  • Does Adobe prefer NVIDIA GPUs over AMD ? If not, can I consider 6600 ?

Nope. Not worth it for your budget.

Yes obviously. GPU isnt limited to gaming. There are two ways you can encode a video, software acceleration i.e. your cpu does the work, and hardware acceleration i.e. you gpu encodes the file. Hardware acceleration is much better and faster as the gpu has dedicated resources to do exactly that. Especially if you are planning to edit 4k videos. Even the playback during editing, especially graphics and effects can be hardware accelerated to provide a much smoother editing experience. Personally I wouldnt even think of editing without a dGPU.

Amd gets bodied by nvidia when it comes to productivity. Amd encoding is quite poor and in some cases may even be unsupported. Between the both, nvidia is the obvious choice. Though if you are planning to build a system primarily for editing I would highly suggest taking a look at Intel Arc A750. It costs 20k so you are saving some money. Also premiere pro 24 started supporting hardware acceleration for Arc GPUs. And it performs really well, 3-5% better than 3060 and even 4060. A750 vs 3060 and 4060.

Secondly it supports more codecs than Nvidia cards. Even supports AV1 unlike 3060. And there's also Intel Deep Link which combines the iGPU and dGPU to gives better performance in productivity in certain supported softwares (performs 10-30% better when turned on). You can do some research on A750 and then make a call. Also make sure the softwares you use support hw acceleration by Arc gpus.

Also from your list, I would suggest getting a better mobo. The one you listed doesnt seem to support xmp profile for ram. Check out ASRock H610M-HVS/M.2 R2.0 or a Gigabyte mobo. I would personally avoid msi mobos.

Also make sure to research on the genuinity of compify and sphinxpc. I think there was a thread about trusted online sellers. You can check that out. The other sellers on the list are fine.

Thanks a lot, That's a really detailed answer. I'll see what I can add in my budget. DDR5 seems like a wise choice since its not that expensive than DDR4 and a lot faster. I'll try adding a GPU later down the line or get a used GPU under 10k for now. Thank you.

Getting a cheaper kaam chalau gpu for now is fine too. You can easily find a 1660/ti/super for around 10k. Also make sure to check your cpu temps when editing 4k. Scrubbing through a 4k timeline is going to bump up the cpu usage. If you feel its getting too hot with the stock cooler you can go for something like AG400 Plus or AK400.

If you are looking for a cheaper case with fans then you can check out Deepcool Matrexx 40 3FS. Comes with 3 in built fans.

Or you can go for an even slightly cheaper case and check out fourdot pwm fans on amazon. They are budget no nonsense fans. 390rs a piece. Make sure to get pwm fans so you can control the speed.

I also remember Corsair ml120 dropping down to around 400rs on primeabgb. Dont know if they still have them.

Did you end up buying 450W psu for this build? I think 550 or even 650 would have been better. but 450 is a bit under powered for the components you'll be using.

I got the PSU today itself. Will this power supply be able to support a 1660 Super / Ti / 2060. Most online calculators recommended 450W, So I ended up getting it.
 
Your setup looks good, but I think you got a motherboard that supports a maximum of 64GB RAM with DDR4. DDR5, on the other hand, can handle up to 512GB and is faster than DDR4.

Consider the MSI PRO B760M-P motherboard, priced at Rs. 12,600. It supports DDR5, allowing up to 196GB of RAM with 4 RAM channels. This could be a better choice for future upgrades.
 
Hey, Thanks for checking in but I've built the PC already. The Mobo supports DDR5 but only has 2 ram slots, but it does come with wifi out of the box. I got 2x16GB 6000Mhz sticks which work for me right now. I read a few bad reviews for the MSI mobo and decided to go with the gigabyte one. Overall I'm happy with the build.
