@greenhorn

The thing u r talking about is a filter ckt. usually used in rectifiers using a shunt capacitor is simplest way.Other types of filters r â•¥ filter,L filters.Filters circuits r used to provide ripple free o/p so using large a capacitor at the only helpful to give clean o/p whereas SMPS based adapter provide voltage regulation against voltage fluctuation.

yup. most smps dont have a big ass capacitor at the output, and so while they regulate better due to their inherent nature, they dont handle fluctuations as well, especially brief interruptions of supply ( as is the OP's problem) because there simply is not enough stored energy to hold the output while the relays in the ups switch.

If you are going to buy an UPS just for powering your modem, connect something else to your UPS too. The modem draws very little current. And modern UPS have intelligent circuits inside them which switch off the UPS when it detects that too little current is being drawn. This makes it power efficient.

I think the problem was with me using a stabilizer for it, since the day I removed the stabilizer I haven't had a single reset due to voltage fluctuation

Thanks guys anyways for your inputs. :)

anything with a relay in it can cause these issues with the modem.

I finally bought a CVT stabilizer for my whole home :D
