WCG India 2008 - A bad dream? - Today, 11:52 AM

This might be a sensitive issue but here we go.

India being one of the leading "powers" in the world now has made a name for itself. period.

All thats just in the text.

Heres what i found. our neighbours are doing better than us!

Go ahead look: WCG Pakistan.

WCG Pakistan

Grand Prize : Rs. 3 Lakh.

No of locations: 16 including Lahore for the finals

Expected participants 6000 - 10000

WCG India: here is what we got last year.

City winners: Rs4500

Stay: cost borne by the players.

Food: cost borne by the players.

Travel : Cost borne by players.

and at the end of it a max of 700 people turned up in wtc mumbai.

other tourneys: example: Reliance Gamebox: hotel and travel provided by the company.. only the food cost borne by the players.(and mind you this was a very classy setup.)

EA sponsored - Rs50 lakh tourney: Vixture .. a major success.

Read on it gets better:

IG gets their cash in crores ( amount unknown )

The end losers : The gamers who put in their vast efforts to get there to get Next to nothing.

the travel food and lodging cost alone is day light robbery, in a city like mumbai.

and the prize money is not even enough to cover that cost.

WCG india 2008: date: 2nd october, dates have been postponed 3 times and have now been taken off the site. "to be announced" is seen in the dates column.

WCG finals: cologne in november and we still dont have our winners. or conformation that WCG IS STILL ACTUALLY HAPPENING IN INDIA. Speculations about cities getting knocked off the calendar is a possibility.

so what happens to all of us who put in day and night, play .. fight ... play more and try to get better to get a little recognition in the industry, get from a tourney like this?

Now:

Why is this happening?

Who should be held responsible?

Why are we being treated this way?

Who are we supposed to contact to explain our situation?

Why are we not being given a straightforward answer when we call IndiaGames?

IS WCG going to be conducted? if so when and Where?

these are just some of the questions which might come to ones head.

I think its time to stand up and ask for a fair deal here. Dont you think so?

A.

hmmmm.

asking for a 'fair deal' on an internet forum does nothing. and you whine as if it's your birthright to play wcg.

it's certainly not the first time an event like this has been messed up. definitely not the last either.

get over it.

i think its all IndiaGames fault, we need someone to give them competition and take things more seriously...this sucks!

WCG not happening in India......wtf...this sucks!

as far as i know wcg 2008 india isnt cancelled..from what i heard it will start on next month only .

The truth is lack of sponsors, but you need to think from their point of view also

ESWC 2008 India got cancelled coz no sponsors were ready to show up...and the eswc 2008 india license fee was around 25 LAKHS, and i dont think its a small amount at all , lack of sponsors is the major reason

talking of sponsors.. here's something slightly OT..

the other day i was at this Mall in Navi Mumbai..

and they had these large screen LCD tv's all over the place.. running... promos for...... SPORE!

EA actually seems to be getting a lil serious about gaming in India. Too bad they dont have too many great games of late..

^ those OOH screens were sowing Spore? :O thats strange. they are always showing some crappy stuff.

no sponsers? this is sad. :(

you'll just have to deal with it i guess. i too was really pissed off when they canceled ESWC India a week before the event. i was really sure of winning and going to San Francisco too. these things do happen here. companies don't care about sponsoring gamers to play... they make WCG and ESWC qualifiers a huge LAN party kinda thing where the masses come and play. everywhere else in the world, it's for a niche audience... not random people who come to internet cafes and say "ok what's going on... some game thing... lemme play"

either you work for one of those organisations or you dont take gaming seriously. when you spend alot of time practicing for a tournament and next thing you know it isnt even happening, you have every right to whine about everything because you were told that the tournament was happening. you obviously dont know anything about what its like for a professional gamer.

yes, theres nothing you can do about it but if someone is disappointed, theres nothing wrong in showing disappointment. wont it be fun to see something bad happen in your life and one of us come and tell you " this happens all the time. stop whining. youre going to get nothing by doing this. get over it. "

i know ^ me too. i know it sucked a little more for you because you bought your own quake 3 server and all. worst thing about eswc is that it was on and it was off and then it was on and then off again. too much confusion.

i totally agree with arun here.. and the next thing, this was SOURCED so before you comment next time.. READ AGAIN!

you prolly arent even a professional gamer, and you have no idea how hard we work to get up there, a lot of members on here may not agree, but for us its a different platform altogether.

the lifespan of a professional gamer is limited in India, cause after a while you have to start working and may have to give it up. so for the years you are actually in it, its only fair to get the best possible.

your sense of entitlement amazes me. the "oh you're not a pro gamer so you can't understand our woes" argument doesn't mean squat.

the bottom line is no one gives a shit about you. and by no one i mean the sponsers who actually pay for your 'professional gaming'. the fact is it's a rich person's hobby in this country. it will never have any mass appeal in any sort of way that would interest sponsors.

your expectations are that you should drive 20 minutes to the prelim venue where you beat out 50 other competitors, 30 of who came in cause they saw the banner outside. then you get an all expenses paid trip to the finals venue where you win to get an all expenses paid trip abroad. don't get me started on india's actual performance abroad. a potential sponsor sees all this and decides that it's not worth his money to spend on. and that is simply that.

now i'm not completely insensitive about how it affects you personally. i am aware that posters in this thread have represented india before and it must be frustrating... but why the attitude? if you think you can do better yourself, go ahead. find the sponsors, spend the money, make it happen yourself.

indiagames has been a ****ing disaster for years now. as has every single indian esports tournament organiser in the past. frankly, i can't see you how are surprised that something like this is happening.

so yea, lose the superiority complex and get over it.

edit : and no, i don't work for any of those companies.

im sorry, but you dont get it.
if an event isnt going to happen its fine. noone going to practice. but when we know its on, we practice. and when it doesnt happen we get disappointed because we practiced. the difference between us and you is YOU didnt practice for SQUAT. so its very easy to say get over it because it makes no ****ing difference to you and your life. and its not a superiority complex. some of us are gamers and this is what we do. we play.

what im wondering is , why are you forcing this kind of talk on us? if you dont care, you arent a gamer, this doesnt affect you, why are you even here ? to open our eyes and tell us "oh youre being taken for a ride" . dont act like youre ****ing smarter than us, you ****. and dont ****ing tell us what to do. you think we dont know how companies run? we know whats going on, we're just frustrated. if you cant understand that then **** you. we can say whatever the **** we want over here even if it makes no difference, what the **** is it to you ?

"oh look at me, i think im smarter than you"

dumb ****ing idiot

lose the negativity please, you are flaming people who have practiced hard for a tournament and now feel cheated.
the fact that pakistan has a better WCG organisation is appalling to say the least.:(
anyhow i didn't know there were pro gamers on this forum, will they please raise their hands up?:P

mr.doc.. the attitude that you are talking about is justified. What do you mean by whine?. There are many people whose profession is gaming. Do you think they dont have the right to speak up ?.. Its all whining to you ?. And about sponsors.. they do have a profit in that if you dont really know. Sponsoring events is a business if you have ever come across. Gaming a rich person's hobby? wtf.. think again dude.. Gaming is an industry. I think you really need to think about the statements made above. Why all this attitude in post like gaming? .. i think u need to get over it rather than other ppl who are concerned about this topic.. Go squat mosquitoes

edit : nicely put arun.. i agree with u

Seeing d*** ***** like you doesn't surprise me, we arent throwing attitude, your the i**** with the major "oh i know everything" complex here, it was a point stated, a point that said pakistan has a better event right now, why cant we?

Please dont get me started on Sponsors, there are things you may or may not know. We have been here longer than you have and we know how it works. big deal? yeah for us it is a big goddamn deal. its a big deal when we know how much they(event managers) get to do this kind of tourney and dont do SQUAT about it.

one thing is certain out of this.. people like you who spread unnecessary negativity around will always be present to piss us off for no apparent reason at all.

If you dont care why are you even replying to this thread..?

Goodday and goodriddens! :2guns:

hehe alright kid gloves are off.

there are no sponsors cause you're that ****ing bad. sponsors see it as a waste of their money to spend it on you. that's right, all your 'oh i'm a progamer' doesn't mean shit to the people who pay.

^^ Arun yaar. Leave it- cant make horse out of donkeys now can we? Guys who cant frag can only brag. I agree with what Somxnemesis and arunrulezz. There were and there are excellent gamers out there. I dont know how many knew a guy with an alias Wilee E. Coyote for quake 3 arena tourrney for India in WCG. Lets not forget the guy who won halo tournament which was setup- he was the same guy who won warcraft tft when it was very famous. spindoc- dude please dont just say anything about what you dont know -they experienced it first hand- and they arent showing any ego. If gaming would have been a rich guy's hobby then we wouldnt be seeing the odd crowd coming, playing and winning. Respect and be respected. Peace.
