The speed is limited to around 2.5 GBps read and 900 MBps write, probably because it was salvaged from an external enclosure

Other than that works perfectly, 100% health

Nice, very tempted to buy but I already maxed out my nvme slots.

Apparently this is salvaged from a WD black P40 (maybe?). Sustained write speed should've been around 1250MBps (https://www.anandtech.com/show/17662/wd_black-p40-game-drive-usb-32-gen-2x2-portable-ssd-review)
but not sure why you're getting way less even when using pcie 3 x4 link.
So why should the speeds be compromised if it has been shucked from any external drive?
I dont think an external controller is responsible for the additional speeds which in fact should be the stock speeds per drive specifications.

What are you even talking about? When did I say the low speed is due to a shucked drive?

All I did was point out the source of the drive and even said that he's running the drive on full supported bandwidth (PCIe 3.0 x 4) and should get full speed but for whatever reason he's not getting it.

Did I say you did? If it was even taken from that P40 then wondering why should speeds get compromised? Never faced such issues when hard drives were shucked from seagates and wds..
 
stop fighting guys, pls use your time productively.
Nobody is fighting just discussing on speed thing.. And btw today is sunday so no productivity!
Still in future need to keep an eye as to what ssds are people selling around... shucked ones, oems or proper used ones..

This thread is an eye-opener given the speed restrictions..need to research to get facts right..

Recieved and just tested it right now, getting worse speeds as compared to the benchmark shared by the OP, which is also fine. but why is it not showing the same speeds? could this be a bios or some settings issue in windows? Can a Pcie 4.0 X2 slot be a bottleneck compared to a PCIE 4.0 x4.. no right?

Packaging was good and leaving feedback.

Are you using it on pcie 4.0 x2?
If yes then that is indeed the bottleneck

PCIe gen 2.0x2 is capable of 1000MB/s throughput, PCIe gen 4.0x2 can do 4000MB/s (Same as PCIe gen 3x4).
So 900MB/s write speed bottleneck is from somewhere else.
Although if the NVMe SSD is Gen 3.0 and you are running it on Gen 4.0x2 port, it will run at 3.0x2. Read speeds of 1782.95MB/s align with the 3.0x2 max throughput of 2000MB/s.
