Welcome Amazon India!

Government will only pass bills in which the see potential to create another scam and gulp the money. Sick government of this Bhagwan bharose country.
FDI in retail wasn't even allowed before this. This is a positive trend to let foreign investments in, but I gather that it is also restrictive to the investors as of now. Maybe they will relax the norms 2-3 years from now when things have settled down and the investments have started flowing in.

Also I guess because of this attitude of Indian government of protectionism USA is curtailing H1B visa rules too. Sort of tit for tat.
I had read this somewhere.

I doubt much is going to happen for FDI in India. Cause it has become a political tool/weapon. See how some ministers are opposing it to keep the vote-banks healthy and running. The new norms passed even make it more difficult for mergers, and some say, gives Reliance Marts more run-time. Any ways, we are protectionist in our approach for economic growth, and the socialistic functioning still shows a grizzly shadow and paranoia; of the Raj returning.

Thanks for the info,

My Question here that Kindle basic reader comes with any official warranty or just same as imported piece like available at ebay India ? Any official Amazon support ?

Is it comes any Sealed Pack ?

Should come with official warranty IMO. Otherwise, what's the point?

Want to buy Paperwhite, but it is too costly at 11k. Should have been ~8k.

My thoughts exactly :(!

Guess will have to settle for a normal version now as my reading frequency at the moment doesn't justify spending 11K on that an eBook reader!

I think the current $ prices are to be blamed. It may get lower after a while if the Rupee value increases.

AFAIK Amazon provides warranties regardless of where you are based. I remember a TE member posting about Amazon sending him a replacement to India and not even requiring him to send back his broken Kindle.

Amazon should be starting with electronics and mobiles this coming Monday . Products are being sold by different vendors with option to store part of your inventory at Amazon warehouses for "Fulfilled by Amazon " , it comes at a cost for the vendor . For first year some charges are waived off or lowered , after that its pretty much like what eBay charges :p

I don't think Amazon will be be able to make a mark with some ground breaking pricing etc with theie own warehousing and stuff, instead they will try to create a customer base purely on quick delivery times + unmatched customer service. Currently I love Snapdeal/Jasper India's service, they basically just picks up packages from vendors and delivers to customer and have recently launched a really good back-end inventory management for vendors which they can access and update to avoid orders which can not be delivered or are not in stock. Also most of their pricing are insanely low with additional coupon being displayed right below the pricing :O

Next few months will be really interesting in Indian eCommerce space ! :D.

Call me conspiracy theorist or whatever but i get a feeling that amazon will try to bring lots of stuff to India via this route. Like strike a deal with few retailers to sell certain stuff. Use the retailer as a SELLER on amazon.in to sell the same products.
I believe Kindle (any variant) was never able in India officially right ? But amazon brought here and gave to all retailers to sell in one go (almost).
