Hi,

I recently got two Xeons e5410-2.33ghz, 1333mhz, 12mb cache , Socket 771 and now I m hunting for a board to use them..

The reason why I got them was I was getting them at a very decent price as a Server was auctioned which had a faulty mobo...

Can you guys suggest me some good motherboard and ram for it... Mobo should have atleast one pci-e x16 port and native sas support as I already have a couple of SAS drives..

Only place I can find them is ebay.com which may be cheaper but I m not sure about duty on used mobos so looking for some local options and in budget..

another thing for my concern will be CPU cooler for socket 771.

TIA.. :)

Hi, the only board available for 771 socket at the moment is :

Intel Server board S5000VSASAS.

It supports Dual Xeon CPU's, 16GB Memory, No PCI-E X16 Slot (though it does have an 8x slot which is physically incompatible with x16 cards), 4 SAS ports.

It comes in OEM Packing, but is brand new with 3 Year Warranty from us or Intel Directly.

The price would be Rs. 16500/- (Including VAT and Shipping ).

Do not hesitate to contact us in case of any further queries.

Okay as per above quote... the system comes out for :-

Proccy=~10k for both

Mobo-16.5l

Ram+PSU=~10k

what about performance difference if compared to a similarly priced i7 ----

Should I go for dual Xeon or i7.

Also is there any DDR3 mobo available with socket 771.. atleast I cudnt find any :(

Do consider the higher power consumption and heat generation from these dual processor setups. Ideally, the i7 processor would be energy efficient and in turn consume lesser power. There shouldn't be a huge trade off in terms of performance either. This however, largely depends on the type of applications you are intending to run on this setup.

This link maybe helpful - PassMark Intel vs AMD CPU Benchmarks - High End

So in short,

I should get rid of the proccys and should go for i7 setup..

who needs them???

The second-hand market ofc. There are folks out there who are looking for cheap servers with decent hardware to boot. And may not be able to afford a present gen. system. You can start a sale thread here and alternately on eBay as well.
