Hi guys.

This thread is about customized and ready made PC's.

I m thinking of buying a new PC and i m confused weather to buy a ready made

PC or to customize one myself.

Thus i request you guys to give positive as well as negative points of both aspects.

I also want your suggestion weather to buy or assemble one.

[mod]Please use descriptive thread titles if you want people to read and reply. "What do you prefer" does not convey anything in itself. [/mod]

I would recommend to buy an assembled PC. Or if u don't know abt different hardware components, then u can ask us and then u can buy those components and assemble one for urself.

Assembled has no negative aspect .. The only thing is you must have some knowledge before getting the stuff.. Else vendors can make a fool out of you.

Branded is for those who don't prefer to assemble or for those who have no idea whatsoever about computers.. I will never prefer a branded PC for Desktop computer.. You can make any sort of assembled computer be it HTPC or High end gaming rig and you know what you are buying adn how much you are paying for.. :)

assembled anyday.

branded PC are for those who cant care to repair their PCs or bother about the config. They simply rely too much on brands like HP, dell etc, while those brands use mostly same hardwares like intel/amd proccy, asus/MSI/giga mobo, corsair/kingston rams etc.

also for assembled, u can enjoy full manufacturers warranty, like 5 yrs for HDD. But branded ones will be mostly OEMs, and warranty is provided by the vendor, and u mostly need to pay extra to extent the warranty after one year.

With branded u can enjoy onsite services and all, but with assembled either u ve to troubleshoot urself or call technician and pay them for service.

U cant just go and purchase ur preferable components for upgradation for branded ones, as most brands prevents u from opening the chassis. But u can do whatever u want like upgrading/modding nythin with an assembled one.

assembled one will be cheaper to similar config branded ones. With upgradation, u can purchase hardware for its latest market price.

With an assembled system, u are sure of whats inside the box, while on a branded one, u arent sure of that, like the HDD buffer, rpm, DVDRW writing speeds for +R/-R/+RW/Dl , system fan speed which dun have sensors and lot more.

there are many more points. Can try to explain if needed.

After having owned a branded PC, I'd definitely recommend assembling one !

It's VFM and you get to choose the best products...

If you don't care what's inside your system except probably which processor, how much ram and the hard disk size, a branded pc like dell with their great service is a good option.
If you do care about the other stuff, whether VRM has good cooling, phase design for cpu, memory and nb, no of sata ports for expansion etc, assembled pcs are the best option. And you get best VFM.

Assembled for sure
tell the amount u wanna spend and let the guys here help u pick the best config for your money :)

Advantages of branded PC

1. Come with Preloaded Operating system.

2. Quality assured because manufactures of Banded PCs are expertise in this industry.

3. We can expect good performance.

4. Good Service support.

5. Come with PC restore CD.

Disadvantages of branded PC

1. 20 to 30 % expensive when compare to an assembled PC

2. Difficult to upgrade.

3. Not possible to customize the configuration

Advantages of an assembled PC

1. You can customize the configuration.

2. easy to upgrade.

3. Cheaper when compare to branded PC

4. Most of the parts come with 3 to 5 year warranty.

Disadvantages of an assembled PC

1. Service support is poor.

2. Uncertain about quality.

3. Need to purchase OS separately.

Finally I would like to recommend Branded PCs for people who do not want any headaches of

service support issues and do not want to upgrade their PCs. These PCs are very good for corporate.

Assembled PCs for people who know computer hardware well, they can handle technical problem themselves, Prefer to upgrade the hardware frequently.

Frankly, that's the only reason one should get a branded PC !
Not talking about the corporate world.

Exactly, not everyone wants to dick around inside they just want to get work done. And since they make up the majority of ppl branded PCs have a big market.

The one point ppl have not mentioned here is that with branded PC's many times device drivers are not available for the next OS. As they want to depreciate and force you to buy another new shining faster machine. They use customised components that are not available individually.

So exepect a shorter lifetime for a branded PC typically as long as the OS cycle which is maybe 5 yrs. An assembled one would give you twice as long as if you pick reputable components then generally drivers are usually available for upcoming OS versions. The experience might be slower but it WILL work otherwise better stick with your current oS.

The industry depends on ppl having to upgrade frequently ;)

What do you intend to do with the new comp? Tell us that as well and we could help you better. Do tell us if you'd require LCD, speakers, UPS, etc besides the core components.
