After watching the TDP and Congress behave while trying to "serve" people I will also hope no such bull shit politicians help me out.
When people are desperate, they will take help from anyone. A matter of life and death will make all such thoughts irrelevant. The politicians know all too well about this; hence they take great advantage of it. First Modi, then Congress and TDP, and I'm sure there will be many who will come forward again. The Army, the police and the local volunteers are the ones doing the real rescue work.

An army convoy on its way to uttarakhand with supplies, etc was held up in Delhi for a week till rahul baba came from abroad to flag them off. Some politician told this in a congress vs bjp debate on same topic of political parties trying to garner votes by "helping" people.
Young or old, all our politicians seem heartless blokes who only care about power and money. :(

Not that kind which was on display yesterday. Pushing and shoving each other to "help" people.
I agree, but what can the people stuck there do? Even a "help" like that is still help for them. There is no other alternative when your kid/parent/spouse is hungry/ill and you need urgent supplies or aid. Just wait till it will be blown out into a religious issue. Ayodhya is too sensitive and might have negative impact, Kedarnath will be the new Ayodhya. All efforts will be shifted there once the rescue work is done, instead of rehabilitating the people.

This is the real Game of Thrones.

I really hate this thing of "inaugurating" any new flyover or this flagging off just for show off. I am pretty sure this does not happen like this abroad. Something constructed, it is thrown open to public without all this hoopla and show off.

Getting insurance money would be tough.

Maybe people need to take a good look at your insurance policies again. They have a certain clause that they can apply in such situations so that they don't have to give away money. That clause is worded something like this: "in the event of natural calamities, or act of God,.....”

You have a point there mate....

Btw, here's somewhat good news for the Uttarakhand victims (claim for missing persons) from LIC of India...
As a special measure for flood victims in Uttarakhand, Life Insurance Corporation of India will waive the normal condition of seven-year waiting period for settlement of claims in case of missing persons.

Considering situation is in one particular part of nation.

My all docs are scanned and stored online including all mark sheets from SSC till Post Grad, all ID proofs, Work-Ex details, etc. Hence getting them reissued may not be a big deal at-least. Counting this I will try to find for job in cities like Ahmedabad where my few relatives stay. Here I can start again with saving money as cost of living here is definitely lower than Mumbai. No fancy electronics stuff in start. Basic cell phone and CRT TV if I could afford. In 3 years I could be able to save enough to have all good basic amenities. In next 7-8 years would start looking for buying a flat or will shift back to Mumbai with rented house. May be this whole cycle may take around 15-17 years. But main idea would be accepting tough time, being hopeful and working hard. I might not have a fancy life which I could have 6-8 years from now, in case no such event, but at-least I will return to current state in same amount of time. One of main factor in such cases I feel is accepting things and staying calm. This will lead to peace of mind even in not so luxury life.

Doood i have already scanned all my documents as you said and it is sitting in the sky happily :D

If you don't have natural disaster insurance, then no, you won't get anything. You have to buy it separately, there is a premium attached for that as well and you will never get back complete amount/value anyway.

You think wrong. Talk to your branch manager. The only case where a bank is unable to pay you back is insolvency, and that is covered by insurance as well. If your bank is a scheduled bank, your entire deposit is covered under insurance. It's not like they keep your cash in the basement of the branch, so even if the branch is utterly destroyed the money is not even there in the first place.

Exactly thats why we have this
