WTH! That's cheap! :O

Croma is renown for giving good discounts for the display models as well.

Mo, try checking for a deal at your local chroma.

I got a LG 42" 720p plasma for 19k (after giving back my old 29" philips crt TV) at chroma :p it is a 2010 model, LG 42PJ350R.

price includes chroma's two year extended warranty, dunno how reliable that is though.

this tv is for my bedroom, attached to my pc, am still searching for a good 50 incher for my living room :(
There is no Croma in Raipur. Shitty place it is :(

Update:

Here are the prices of all the different models in 40" size which I found out,

Sony 40BX400 - Rs. 49,900/-

Sony 40EX400 - Rs. 50,990/-

Sony 40NX500 - Rs. 54,900/-

Sony 40EX500 - Rs. 59,900/-

Sony 40CX520 - ~ Rs. 55,000/- and 15 days delivery time

Samsung LA40D550 - Rs. 44,500/- (slightly negotiable) (HN01 version)

Panasonic LCD 42U20 - Rs. 44,000/-

I think I will go with the Samsung LA40D550 or Panasonic 42U20. I am just tired of hunting now. I haven't checked the prices of any LG panel though

Interesting how no one's recommended going plasma... The new 42" inch X30 is here and going for 36K and change... and X20 (last year's model) came up at 33K (not a display piece). This is in Bangalore by the way... The X series is 720p (which is all you need at this size). The 46 inch U series model can be had at about 44K. That's Full HD (Though it doesn't have all the horizontal resolution it should). All of this comes with great picture quality and most if not all features the other TVs have...

Interesting and though I am not an expert why is no one even mentioning the Panasonic. It seems almost all of their models are ips based. I was in a panny store recently (Delhi) and almost all of the models including the U series had the IPS stickers.
Two most online reviews (non Indian seem to have a very high opinion of the Panasonic Television's). So is it like we do not get the latest models, have service issues or simply do not like panny ?

Plenty of LCD and Sony fanbois around here :p

I finally got the Samsung LA40D550. I took the HN01 version itself. There was no choice and I went to the Samsung godown here also and could see only this version. I haven't started using the TV yet though.

I am looking for a decent DVD player now for this. Please suggest. Thanks.

^Nice! Yet to figure out what panel HN01 uses.

What budget do you have for the DVD players? The entry level cheap ones do not have an HDMI out and cannot upscale the videos, so keep that in mind.

Just saw that its written "Made in India" behind my panel. Damn. I hope its not a shitty one.

For the DVD player, I was looking for something around 5K or below. And would prefer a HDMI one.

Congrats on your purchase.
Check the service menu by pressing Info,Menu,Mute,Power in the remote during standby.

I doubt the panel is made in india.Only stuff like bezel ,power supply board can be made in india.

Do I need to press all those buttons together at once?

Ok. I will do that and post the results as soon as I can. Maybe another week or so before I start using my TV.

Any suggestions for the DVD player guys?

Told my sis to buy the Sony KLV-32 BX-320 32" LCD from dubai while coming. It was selling for 1400DHS (Rs.17000) there at Jumbo electronics with a 1 year international warranty. She didnt even have to pay customs. Same TV in India costs Rs.32K officially. Almost double. Wonder why they like to screw us with exorbitant pricing here. KLV-32BX320 : BX320 Series : BRAVIA

@adder

I finally checked the Service Menu today and my worst fears have come true. I think it is the shitty panel. The code inside reads 40D6AF0C. Avoid the HN01 panel from Samsung guys. Just my bad luck though honestly I am finding the TV to be good after having no TV at all :p
