Ive always preffered seagate. Ive had no trouble touch wood. And the 5 year warranty reflects their confidence

I got myself a few of the High Capacity Internal HDDs along with a few CM X-Craft E-sata casing 4m Lynx-india (Amarbir). Worked out much cheaper.

Casing has only a yr's warranty but the HDDs ve 5yrs. I connect it through E-Sata on the PC & through USB on my Laptop...plus get 2 USB slots extra.

can you tell me the cost of CM X-craft E-sata casing ?

Also I felt that the cost of 1 TB disk + casing would equal the external disk cost

eg. 1TB seagate internal disk costs arnd 7600 + casing

1TB WD external costs arn 8300+tax in bangalore

which would work out to be same, please tell me if there is any disadvantage?

Also is amarbit some online shop? Any details abt it as do not know anything abt it

Well if u get the 1TB external drive with USB, then it would really suck since USB transfer speeds are quite slow! And I dunno if you get the external drives which support Esata (which i think is the fastest way to transfer data into external drives). So its better to get internal + casing (With esata) for faster transfer speeds. The difference in price may not be much but the time cut short is huge. think about it.

errr.....most good external drives come WITH ESATA too :P Just clearing that up :)

e-sata transfer speeds are the same as sata speeds.

if you dont have e-sata on mobo, you can get sata to e-sata bracket. i think the coolermaster e-sata comes with the bracket bundled.

Check Lynx 4 the rates of CM X-craft casing. And yes, it comes with E-sata bracket and cables.

I got me 2 x CM X-craft E-Sata casing with WD640 for Rs.5350/- each.

A 500GB WD Xternal drive with E-SATA comes for 7K in mumbai...ofcourse, the 500GB WD without E-SATA comes 4 even less than 5K but the transfer speed are also around 25MB/sec...I get 100MB/sec with the WD640 in the X-Craft casing via E-SATA ;)

thanks for the info

I have more queries

1. 2 X CM X-craft E-Sata casing means a single case with two E-sata ports?
I am not sure, can you please explain?

2. Can u point me to a source which explains what is E-sata bracket?

Will it work even when I do not have an E-sata port on my motherboard?

1. he means he got 2 hard disks and 2 casings, 1 for each

2. esata bracket connects to the internal sata port of your mobo and uses 1 of the back plates on your cabinet to provide an esata connector. you can then connect your hard disk using esata cable. hers a pic:

3. esata bracket is for that purpose only.
:)

Hi,

Can you tell me the approx cost of this casing and the model number which is available?
In bangalore it is being quoted at 1900/- but on lynx it is 1346/-

^^^Check the link I posted. Its 4 the same E-sata casing. It'll workout to Rs.1485/. shipped through lynx. Heres the breakup:

Xcraft 350 RX-3SB-S: Rs :1,346.00

Tax: Rs :53.84

Shipping (DTDC Air [Non Insured]): Rs :85.00

Total: Rs :1,484.84

I get my parcel within 3 days (max 5) of making the payment @ ICICI but it also depends on stock availability. Call Amarbir 4 more details...his #s should be on the "Company + Shipping & Payment Details" tab of his site.

EDIT: He also has Western Digital 1TB HDD For Rs :6300/- + Taxes 4% + Shipping Rs :85/-

That works out for Rs. 8118/. for a 1TB X-Drive. Too bad I already ve 2 x 640GB :P

Thanks a lot for help.

One last query I have is about heating issues.
I read on newegg that
Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER RX-3SB-LAB1-GP Aluminum 3.5" USB 2.0 & eSATA External Enclosure w/ Hub & Back up - External Enclosures

the casing may lead to heating issues.
Is that true?

Please let me know your experience and any precautions I should take when I use the casing along with the harddisk.

Thanks.
