Which 55inch 4K TV under 70K?

I am looking for a 55" 4K TV, to upgrade from this (a 12 year old Samsung 32" LCD )
Max I can stretch is around 70K.

My shortlisted ones are

• Sony KD-55X74K ~ 58K
• LG 55UQ7500PSF ~ 46K
• Samsung UA55AUE65AKXXL ~ 47K

These are again those having high number of rating .

1. What are the things to look for in a TV?
2. Does the OS matters? If so, which one should I look for - Google TV ?
3. OLED/QLED TVs are too damn costly. Are they worth the price? (I mean unless I compare side by side with a lesser TV in some showroom)

Usage is not much. My Kid watches Youtube sometimes. I watch few sports streams and sometimes a few OTT stuffs with my wife on the weekend. Average ~2 hours a day.

Any comment or recommendation?

I'd suggest the crystal over all the options you mentioned and the frame 55 inch from Samsung should be available for a little extra price offline if you bargain. Consider checking them all out in person before choosing.

What are the things to look for in a TV

a. Depends on what do you watch on TV? DTH? You need a Dumb TV.​

b. Play Games etc? Refresh rate.​

c. Rely only on TV apps? Then Platform.​

Depends on your needs on Above, Android/WebOS/Tizen? All have apps which are supported by many major apps. You can always upgrade with external hardware (Mobile Phone/ Android TV box / AppleTV / Laptop / Tiny PC). So always get a better display panel + IO than paying premium for a better OS.​

OLED/QLED TVs are too damn costly. Are they worth the price? (I mean unless I compare side by side with a lesser TV in some showroom)

I have a OLED which I got in 2018-19(LG C8 55"), Every time I Come back to it in full darkness watching a decent movie, I don't regret the money I spent on it. Specially movies which have Darkness or Space or HDR they really look amazing. If you are watching DTH? Don't even bother with OLED.​

Get the Sony X74K. Sony generally has better colour calibration, HDR calibration & stuff over LG/Samsung. Also, Google TV is an advantage for me because of sideloading of apps, etc, but you can make a case for Samsung or LG's TV being more responsive because of its lighter OS.

If you aren't someone who tinkers much with OS & all, can buy Samsung & save money because all of them are a significant upgrade over whatever you have right now. Heck, if you are in a Tier 1 city, can get Vu 55" 4K for under 35k to save money, get extended warranty for another 3k or so as well if you go this route.

It can be had for little less but it really depends on your preference. Personally after choosing LG TV and realising they offer just as bad after sales support as any other brands I'd choose budget models that are great value like Hisense U6G which costs under 45k.

If you're only in to top brands then I'd suggest you visit croma, reliance, respective branded shops and compare it yourself so you'll get an idea how they all stack up and usually you can get it cheaper than online price after a little bargaining. I was quoted 10-30k less than online prices for many mid-top end Samsung, LG TVs.

Support, warranty, color calibration, failure rate, feedback on reddit etc. Do not fall for low priced models from brands like Samsung/LG especially if they are online-only models as they come with low quality panels. Sony is among the best when it comes to color calibration but then it all falls flat next to LG C2 OLED. C2 with decent color calibration is better than the best color calibrated LCD/LED TV from Sony.

   1. I do not even use smart features of my LG C2. The interface is crowded and confusing. I purchased Apple TV 4K (12k INR I think). Both LG remote and Apple TV remote work well. Google TV sucks donkey balls, mainly thanks to the skimped cpu/memory. I have Mi TV 4K which is stuck on Android TV 8.0 which is ancient.

   1. I would suggest to slightly up the budget and get the LG C2. Absolutely worth that extra price. Moreover, prices of OLED TVs are dropping a lot. I got one earlier this month and I cannot look at LCD/LED TV anymore. You may have to go for smaller size though. 48" C2, you can get under 90k if you can bargain and 55" will cost more than 1L. But if your room is brightly lit (lot of sunlight coming in), LCD/LED are better as they have better maximum brightness. A new tech is coming from Samsung QDLED that has OLED panel but with LED/LED brightness. Do not look at these as first gen products will definitely have panel issues.

My preference is for Sony too, mainly I like the remote and Google TV UI and its seamless "integration" with Android for things like easy casting and typing on phone keyboard for doing things like search terms on the TV.

I have OLEDs though but LED too should look better than other brands.
