My 21 month old 8800GT gives garbled screen after about 20 minutes of Batman:Arkham Asylum and my PC hangs. I think it is overheating as I can clearly hear the stock cooler whining. It works fine for long TF2 sessions as TF2 doesn't really tax the GPU.
I'm thinking of buying a 9800GT. I believe the current lot of 9800GTs are 55nm and run cooler. Palit and Zotac seem to be the most popular and VFM brands available. Which one is better from a reliability, warranty and cooling perspective?
Thanks in advance!

8800gt=9800gt.. both are 65nm so ther is no point buying it..

try adding more fan in case or thermal paste would do..

BTW what temp does it show while gaming?

Zotac 9800gt 512mb is availaable for arnd 5.5k.

9800gtx+ & gts 250 are 55nm not 9800gt or 9800gtx :)

buy any but I would recommend you buy a 40nm hd5750 :)

there is a xfx 8800gt for sale here in the marketplace.

xfx has always got good quality stuff--overpriced but good quality

And backed up by a pathetic customer support! I'd dare touch a product whose customer service's handled by Rashi Peripherals.

I m happy with both XFX and Rashi..

yes they do give you real pain sometimes :@ but it has always ended up with something very good for me :)

go for it..

I logged the sensor readings using Everest this time. The GPU temp was at 85 C when it gave the garbled screen(random red and green patches all over). I'm attaching the file here.
The stock 8800GT cooler doesn't fare too well. The 9800GT debuted at 65nm but has been fabbed at 55nm since later half of 2008. You can google it to find out more.

Judging from the answers here, Zotac seems to be preferred over Palit. I checked out Zotac's website and there are a lot of 9800GT models listed there with different cooler designs.

Any idea which models are available at Lamington Road? Do they have stock cooler or custom cooler designs? What are the load temps like? 9800GT owners can help me here.

+1 for zotac. It comes with a bundled game too.
Welcome to the forums! Do you own a Zotac 9800GT? If yes, then can you tell me about it's cooler design(stock or custom) and load temps?

What is you budget..? And why do you want to buy a 9800GT..?? why not latest GPU say 250..??
I want to spend the minimum amount of money to get 8800GT like performance and lower load temps.

Hmm I would say get a 9600GT similar performance to a 8800GT, and a lot cheaper compared to 9800GT. In any cases as others suggested, invest a lil bit more and get a 4850 which at 6.5k gives similar performance to a 5750 at 9.5k...

How about investing in a aftermarket heatsink for the existing 8800GT? A new Artic Cooling Accelero S1 rev. 2 retails for 1.4k and performs exceedingly well for the price. Ask the dealer (Amarbir, Lynx?) to list it on eBay and use a coupon to get it cheaper. If that works, you could extract some more juice out of your GPU by overclocking it. If it still crashes, RMA it.

In any case that heatsink works for most GPUs in the market:

@gannu

i have never had trouble with all the xfx cards i have owned -- they gave me loads of free stickers and stuff--also when my sony dvd writer stopped working they gave me the latest one box packed and all in under 2 mins!!! i had a dru-810 they gave me a dru-830!

8800gt=9800 the same damn card with a 9 instead of 8!!! and 8800gt had excellent coolers if you bought the ones made 4 -6 months after the original was launched.

My friend's cousin has a zotac 9800 gt. He said that the card crosses 80 deg C during heavy gaming. But, better than palit. So there's no point buyin a 9800gt over an 8800gt. Overall, i think a 4850 is a better choice with just 1k more.

I know that right now 4850 is the VFM sweet spot in graphics. But doesn't it run hot? Or did they fix that? Plus, I would need to upgrade my PSU too if I got the 4850. If you check my Everest log from my previous post, my 8800GT is stressing the +12V rail of my CM 500W PSU. The voltage drops to 11.7V region under load. Actually, a 4770 would be an ideal replacement as it consumes lesser power and runs cooler while performing similar (actually slightly better) to an 8800GT/9800GT. Unfortunately, it is priced higher than a 4850 here!

order it online from some of the dealers here--there are people selling their cards on the marketplace here---snag one cheap! but the 4850>>>>> 8800gt/9800gt.
