Car & Bike Which Car (SX4, Fiesta or Old Honda City)

Oh well.. I have the SX4, really like the car. I'm a fairly passive driver, and the daily commute is like 4-5 kms one way. I've done Bombay-Pune a couple of times, and I like the car's handling. At that price, 6.1 lakh, I think it's a no-brainer. Build Quality seems fine as well, not too many creaks/rattles.

^^ even i drive the SX4... almost 1.5yrs and still goin strong..
dunno bout the rattling.. haven't experienced it yet.. but id say the plastics at certain places are flimsy.. but not at places that wud dissappoint u though..
the loaded features will totally superimpose those imperfections..
there's a lil bit of gettin used to the drive by wire, coz there is a time lag.
but the power and stability is amazing..
i've even driven it on national highways.. it feels robust and strong..
if u can get the new NHC, well and good.. but the sx4 will definitely beat the old one.
no comments about the verna and others, havent driven any of those..

i read ur requirement......... Get a Diesel Fiesta.. honda City wont be good for ur 1500km/month - Will skyrocket the bills.

Fiesta's best part, the throttle is Very Responsive.

^^ Why do all car enthusiasts always recommend what are market duds

not that the Getz was (OK..is) a bad car, but it's a EOL product (like the other car enthusiast perennial favorite, the Palio) and buying a new one ATM isn't exactly a great move financially since the vehicle will dpreciate to like 40% of its value in less than 3 years

And before someone pounces on me and claims that a true auto lover will not bother about lowly factors like resale value, may I also remind you that a car lover will typically also want to change his/her wheels after 3-5 years

A move that is easily accomplished with a car with good resale while easier said than done with a Palio and likes

Remember, a true car enthusiast will usually ignore the mileage aspect, but not the resale aspect..unless he/she has super deep pockets or is willing to live with a so called drivers' car for 10 years

^^True and untrue. When I bought my car, everyone around me kept cribbing about the so called poor resale value of mitsubishis. Everyone I spoke to told me to spend the additional 3.5lacs and get the Civic.

Now looking at current resale value thanks to recession, a mid 2007 civic sells for 8-9lacs while a mid 2007 Cedia sports sells for around 7-7.25. Tell me who's the bigger loser :P.

Trust me, you aren't going to get a real buyer at that rate, but anyway, that's besides the point

All I am trying to say is that resale value is something that should be reasonably high on every car enthusiasts' list of parameters when making a selection (and not something to ignore esp. since it's considered kinda cool to not consider the resale aspect when buying a new vehicle)

The i20 CRDi will be here in a few months along with a sportier 1.4L petrol. Makes sense for your budget and its packed with features..

Well... I have finally decided to play the book and play the waiting game. I have made up my mind on Swift VDI with ABS and will install petes box after 10k Kms. Will upgrade to alloys and bigger rubbers as soon as i take the delivery of the car. With a decent ICE rattling should not be an issue. Hopefully i have made a wise decision.

Was considering a Getz 1.5 CRDI but decided against it as its an EOL product and it doesn't come with ABS. Also my father would also be driving the car(Occasionally hopefully) along with my wife and with 1.5 CRDI I heard that its a pain to drive in the city traffic where it would be mostly driven. Lastly i already have two Hyundai's in the house(Accent Viva and Santro) so thought why not any other brand.

Basically i wanted a car which has power as well as performance and should not be very expensive to buy or to maintain. I guess Swift Disel fits here perfectly along with Palio MJD and Vista Qudrajet Anniversary addition. Palio is out of question as the BOSS is against it and Vista is just not for me. I hate the exteriors and i hate the interiors. I just love the engine though but then again even if i ignore the exteriors and interiors i just cannot ignore the tata A.S.S.

I took a TD of the i20 and i felt its underpowered and expensive by a minimum 50K. Also the FE is horrible (11 i was told by the salesman) and also my friend booked a i20(Middle version) but even after 1.5 Months there was no confirmation for the time of the delivery. So he finally canceled his booking.

Also there is no telling when the i20 CRDI would come and secondly if the petrol is like 6K on road then disel would be 7K atleast. I guess its better to buy a Fabia now at that price rather then wait for the i20 CRDI. But then again i dont have 7K now. Do I :P

I personally know of a car that went for 7.5 just three months ago. Sold by a tbhpian and bought by a tbhpian. Bangalore prices are way higher than chennai due to ridiculous taxes. You have to keep that in mind.
