You can, as far as I know, work as a consultant if you have a PR.

Also getting a job in US is not as tough as having the option to work, if you are for instance a green card holder then there will be plenty of opportunities if you have even half a brain, problem is that they have only two long duration work visa for non residents, the H1 and L1, and huge costs associated with them for the company, so they make sure only those who can make a good return on their investment gets sent.

Thats why most people go as a student and then work on OPT post studies, finding an H1 sponsor afterwards is a lot easier, relatively speaking.

you have to get your education and experience *validated* by them. They will certify that your experience and education are valtid and not fake. its not tough but will cost you ~450AUD
they will not recognize your exp or education if they feel that the data supplied by you is not sufficient or if they feel the certs are fake.

it is a *must* requirement to apply for a PR visa.
