I would like to have general opinion of group members.

Already seen this thread, its dead from 2 months so not bumping - http://www.techenclave.com/general-talk/suggest-credit-card-170898.html

My requirements are different, Please suggest a credit card...

Already have ICICI Platinum - Pretty good, No complaints but very very bad rewards catalog.. Not able to find anything good for my 9000 reward points.

Here are few Requirements with my observations.

Which card has maximum number of reward points interms of money spent ? (Found Standard Chartered Manhattan good)

Which card/bank has best reward catalog ? (Found HDFC & SBI has one of best rewards catalog - HDFC has even PS2)

Which card/bank offers good discount/cash back on online shopping ? Airline ticket discounts etc. There are few cards which offers cash back with every swipe. Not sure which one.

No yearly fees/Joining Fees etc etc

Few of the shortlisted are
Standard Chartered Manhattan
HDFC Credit Card (Which one to take, there are many options)
SBI Credit Card (Which one to take, there are many options)

Please suggest based on your personal experience.

Well I have Standard Chartered Manhattan Platinum as well as HDFC Platinum. I mainly use Manhattan card as it gives 5% cash back on super market purchase of Rs 500/- or more. Rewards are also good in Manhattan. I also didn't find any problem with HDFC card...but I prefer cash back more than reward points...hence not using it. Anyways I would recommend SC Manhattan Card :)

I am currently using Standered Chartered Rewards Card. Have no problems as of now.
I get only reward points. There was cash back offer until March 2010 which i used it at max, now its been discontinued :(
Rewards aint that great too. Best from these reward points for me would be to convert them to flyer miles.

SC Manhattan Platinum (SCMP) reward points catalog can be checked at SCB: Rewards Site which I find equates to 1 point = .50 Rs. SCMP gives 5 reward points for every Rs. 100. They also have joining fees and annual renewal fees.

does it really matter, most of the cards are exempted from annual fees for the first year & only applied for the next year if your target is not met (Target depends on the card you take)

so, take any & then decide, you got one year, & see if you get it that easily.

Is this true - 5% cashback on ebay.in using Standard Chartered Manhattan Platinum Card ?

Well used ICICI Platinum, There are no monthly/yearly charges.

Standard Chartered Manhattan Platinum Card has very nice reward catalog - indiaplaza.in/Manhattanplatinum

Did anyone used HDFC's Catalog ? They have PS2 :)

I just got a HDFC credit card made, they gifted me a table clock along with it.

The quality of the clock is not bad, look really good.

One of the major reason why i chose HDFC ...

:-)

Well, I have HDFC Platinum and use it very frequently. Got an SBI silver card just 2 days back. Havent used that one yet. HDFC card is quite good. Rewards look decent, but havent accumulated enough points for anything decent yet.

I was offered a Stan Chart card and apparently that had cashback on all Supermarket purchases and 5% cashback in the form of reward points for all other purchases. Another attractive thing was that they were giving 1 movie ticket free for every ticket purchased in PVR. I kept asking the lady on phone if it was one time thing or time limited or something. But she insisted, that it is always free. I found it too hard to believe. Anyway did not take it in the end.

Standard Chartered Manhattan Platinum has any yearly charge ?

Well yes, it's true...you get 5% cash-back max Rs 200/- on ebay.in transactions...well mine card is free for life time...using it from last 1 yr. 2 months....no charges for me at all :D

Manhattan is free for the first year, and from subsequent years there is a fee - don't remember how much.

From my experience, if you are looking more from rewards perspective (not reward points per se), I would recommend (in that order), the Manhattan Platinum for its 5% cash back at super markets, really helpful if you shop a lot, and then the Citibank Platinum. The latter doesn't have an annual fee - atleast I am not charged. You get 1 point for every 125 bucks spent, 5 points at outlets which Citibank has tie up with, and these points are adjustable against your outstanding at 1 pt = 1 Re. In addition, most of the year they have a 15% discount at some of the best food outlets in the city.

Well as I told earlier, I'm using this card for past 1 year 2 Months and they haven't charged me anything...at the time of taking card only I read all terms and conditions and it was indeed free for lifetime...maybe now a days they are asking fees....but I took this card pretty early so they might have changed rules now....and regarding ebay.in...it comes under super market shopping...so on minimum purchase fo RS 500/-..you will get cashback of 5%....maximum Rs 200/- per transaction...

@Konquerror

Thanks a lot for confirmation on ebay. Let me check out if there is any yearly fees.

One more doubt.. Can you use coupons on Ebay as well use Standard Chartered Manhattan ?

e.g. Coupon of 10 % Off from ebay & get 5 % cashback from Standard Chartered Manhattan ? Do you get discount both ways ?

AFAIK, it works on the amount only. It doesn't matter how you arrive at the amount. i.e. how much of discount has been applied. I have not tried it on ebay and hence I don't know whether Cashback applies to ebay or not. It says 5% cashback on supermarkets and departmental stores.

Yup, you can use Ebay coupons with SC Card...and yes I do receive discount both ways :D

Citibank cash rewards is the best guys. 5points on every 200rs spent (1pt=1rs), lots of options for redeeming and discounts on various outlets and here comes the best part:

1 ticket free on every ticket booked thru bookmyshow.com :)

Didnt know that there is a cashback when you use SC card on ebay. I use hdfc for all my online transactions and SC for offline.
