me too heard of very good reputation of LG.

I would just toss between LG and ASUS.

One more thing -

before you buy, try to get the Model no/ Serial no (actually forgot which one). According to my source, if it starts with 'H' or 'HE', then it is actually made by LG-Hitachi colaboration.....very good product. Else just a LG OEM product..... never buy that.

No such thing as a BEST drive..
Get the LG H10A, or the Asus 1608P3S, which can be crossflashed into a Pio 111L.

Got the Asus 1608P3S for a friend recently (thanx to techhead) ... works great ... specially compared to the 820A that I've got :(

Slightly OT,

Hey TH, can the Asus aka Pio do Quality scans like the Benq ? cos the LG cant and i cant find Benq anywhere here in Pune. :(

me recently bought a Benq 1650 and am very satisfied with it..:)

Only downside..max write speed for DL media is 8x..

though i shall rarely burn DL..

Disagree there Sire!!
Though I donno much about the more recent writers, but 1650 is for-sure a good one..Using this one since Feb'06 & no issues till date, even with more than 200 DVD's in my collection, thanx to it.. ;)
Doesn't support DVD-RAM though, but that can only be a concern if you plan to use those type of disks..

It can. Not very accurate though. You'll need CDSpeed 4.70 for the Pio scans.

Anyone need a Benq 1650? There were plenty in stock at Nutrend @ Lammy, 1675 or so.

The H20N is decent, good buy for the price.

Actually, the latest L-O drives are very good as well, especially with the introduction of Overspeeding, Hypertuning and OnlineHypertuning (OS, HT, OHT). You need the latest official FW and the latest version of SmartBurn for these. Works well with the 1635S, 160P6S, 165P6S and 165H6S.
Of course, error scans work as well with these. KProbe and CDSpeed.

@ioisoft - what do you think the HL-DT-ST in the LG drive names means? I'll give you a clue - Hitachi-LG-Data Storage. ALL the LG drives are made with Hitachi as a partner..there's no such thing as an LG OEM drive anymore.

Tell your source to get a clue..

Switch, I just remembered that you're from NOIDA..Right? So just cancel the BenQ 1650 from the probables' list if the procurement location was NP..No stock there!!
