@everyone
Thanks for your suggestions i've decided to go for LG GH22NS30 since its SATA based, buts its not available on the other hand, the Samsung 22x is available. Should i go for it?

I have both Samsung and LG writers and they both do not write to DVD -R media :( I have a 20x Liteon IDE which does write to the same media with no problems. But I dont want to install a IDE drive in my case anymore. Which SATA DVD writer available in the market currently writes to Moser and Sony -R media ?

Are you kiddin me? DVD-R media is what you get in most shops !! Standard dvd media ppl use !

And i've used a hell lotta DVD-Rs(most brands) with my LG drive...

Something wrong with your drive !

my LG GSA H55N doesn't burn DVD's..also it doesn't read all disks only few of them..

.i can't see the burn option highlighted in nero...

does that mean my drive has gone kaput?or it needs lens cleaning?

i barely used the drive to write DVD's..is that the reason? Also the drive is not in warranty...

Problem specific only to your drive !

Bad piece i guess...

Please don't form a neg. opinion of a drive/brand just because your h/w was defective !

Mate, you got me wrong..i said my drive was working fine for few months until it recently went kaput...also it does read some of my DVD's..but the problem is with drive coz even my frnd's same LG model went kaput after a year...like mine..he wanted to go for samsung but since i insisted hime to go for this brand he says he will stay away from LG...

Also fyi my cousin has old benq writer which is still going strong after so many years...quality of components matters...:cool2:

All i'm trying to say is...
some face problems and most don't ! that doesn't mean all their products are bad...

I'd still vouch for an LG...

FYI,I've owned both Samsung & BenQ writers...

I finally bought the LG GH22NS30 this weekend when i went home. Thanks guys :)

PS:Its made in Japan by LG-Hitachi, also i didn't get a box for it,hope thats not an issue. Was 1100 Rupees

A few days back I bought the Samsung 223F, seems like a nice writer - not tried any DVD -R's so dont know if this too will make some "-" coasters :(

As usual the first thing I did was to get on to CD Freaks and find the region free hack for the writer - done successfully :ohyeah:

1 problem.

LG service center in my locality requires the purchase bill in order to rma LG products...had issue wid one LG drive on which the date of manufacturing was clearly mentioned by LG itself..n drive was less than 12months older than dat date...still service center refused to accept it...dunno if thats d case everywhere...bt i have stopped purchasing LG since then....

check the policies in ur locality b4 buying.

Got a 1.5yrs old LiteOn 201AP from a friend.
What a moody drive!!
Reads DVDs once in 50-70 tries, else works great as a CDROM most of the times.
Using it to install OS as and when needed.
Another DRU820 has started to behave similarly since i got the liteOn.

Need to buy a SATA one for myself finally- my mobo shows no love for IDE drives. :(

@BIKeINSTEIN
even i had the same lite on model.experienced same probs as you had faced after 1.5 yrs.So i bought the LG LG GH22NS30.Used it for a couple of dvds.

2 years back i used to love Liteon drives... i used to recommend it to all...and at that time samsung drives were a big no ...

now all three of my liteon drives have malfunctioned....

Liteon has gone bad and its not recommended anymore..

so which is the current best?

LG or Samsung or Sony i heard sony uses Liteon as OEM

Those who want SATA DVD burners, get the LG GH22NS30 or the Samsung SH-S223F. :)
Though both are almost as good maybe and the samsung may have better compatibility with any sort of media, i prefer the LG over the Samsung as some of the samsungs i got for friends were a bit too noisy for my liking. :ashamed:

I brought Asus IDE drive 8 months before now some media taking 1 minute to load. Some discs were not recognized. I think it needs RMA. The quality has really gone badddd.. Instead of purchasing dvd drive for every year for 1.1k why dont the manufacturers release good quality DVD with some higher price. I have brought LG 48x cd rom still running for almost 8 years. I purchased for 2.4K. We wont find this quality again.
I have a doubt is there any chip inside the dvd which makes it redundant after some time  .
