Hi Guys,

I have finally decided to get a dedicated graphics card for myself (yay!). A friend of mine will pick it from the US. I want it to play most games that may come out by next year in normal settings. I was thinking of Radeon HD 4850.

Now not knowing much about what to buy, I am open for suggestions.

So please pour in your valuable advice.

Please mention the manufacturer as well. Give me a few options, so that I can ask my friend to get it as a hot deal from one of the sale outlets in the US. I could get a steal !

Budget is ~10 K, but can be streched.

Cheers !

~M

^^ I already had the inclination to buy 4850. But I want the exact specs - RAM (DDR3 - and how much?), manufacturer etc.

Uhh ... I have a 22" Viewsonic monitor. I think optimum resolution for it is 1680X1050. But I don't think a little change in resolution will matter too much to me.

buying from us...........

then get SAPHIRE 4850 TOXIC EDITION
Toxic edition is an OC edition card & also has better geatsink....compared to stock one .

Beware!! If the card conks off, your excitement stops.
Local warranty zindabad.
LOL.

A locally bought 4850 makes a decent buy for a 22" WS LCD. :)
Whats are the rates locally now?
Wasn't it 9K odd for the Palit with the big yellow dualslot cooler- had heard it was a pretty cool card. :)

Can anyone else vouch for these cards ? Never heard of this manufacturer before, even on forums. Looks a good buy though with the heatsink and good cooling.

Ya ... but firstly I'll ask my friend to test it there, before getting it here. Secondly, some hot sales are going on at this time, and if I get a really good deal, I am ready to take that risk :)

Still not convinced, though have a soft corner for the Sapphire model :P

Thanks,

~M

HIS is popular indeed thanks to their IceQ series cards with custom coolers. If you do have a soft corner for Sapphire, take the 4850 Toxic :P

+ 1 for HIS ICQ4

i have heard HIS provides world wide warranty...that if their distri is in ur country :P

one of my frnds in pak bought one from us n he is elligible for warranty in pak.

check wid HIS india distris if any abt the same...

hey mallik if ur ready to stretch ur budget buy an ASUS card locally.. .i know it ill cost u slight extra but its worth it...cause local warranty zindabad :hap2: as gunman said...and wht bout ur system specs...do u have a sufficient enough PSU to support the card....plz post your system spec....a corsair VX450W is wht u ill need to run ur rig if u dont ahve a descent PSU....:cool2:

Local warranty on graphic cards is much better...also gives better resale value

Buy Palit Sonic, heard good things abt Tirupati warranty
Asus and Rashi...hmm...negative reps for them everywhere, but they once replaced my 6600GT prompty with a new card in 3-4d ays

^^ its also 70usd more expensive than a decent 4850.

warranty is not just about a product being Dead on Arrival. A product can die out at any point of time in its lifetime.

If your card were to conk out while it is here, you will have to pay close to 3k to get your card shipped to and fro the US. Are you ready to take that risk?

I would rather up my budget by 1k and get the Palit Sonic Edition locally.

Another thing that would bother me would be the currently prevailing ridiculously high exchange rate w.r.t the dollar.
