Laptops Which is best AMD based lap

Acer 4520? in that range i guess. n its supposed to be pretty decent :) theres a basic compaq in the same range too. Check out the reviews section. someone had posted a hands on with the compaq too :)
 
1. Avoid Athlon as far as you can. They consume a hell lot of power

2. Turions are better these ways (and more expensive)

3. Most AMD based laptops in your price range come with either ATI or NVIDIA graphics card. These are lower to lower-midrange cards depending on who your are listening to.

4. If you are getting an NVIDIA card-based laptop then rest assured that it will most probably be a 7000M card (So, bye bye Ubuntu and other Linux OSes. It ain't very compatible with the 7000M)

5. Choices mostly from Acer and Compaq.
 
On top of showing off the Puma platform at Computex, AMD has also taken the time to show the world what their ATI branch is working on. Some of their offerings look very interesting, including new mobile GPU offerings and some very nice tech demos of some future Radeon HD GPUs. To start off with, AMD gave a short preview of what their Radeon HD 4800 can do, in particular generating some on the fly scenes that make even FMV look like cartoons. A hastily-uploaded video shows a few seconds of the tech demo, which does look impressive, even through the shaky cam work.

AMD also introduced some new processors and GPUs, including “Hybrid Graphics Technologyâ€, something we've seen now and then from other vendors in other forms. Essentially, notebooks which feature this technology will be able to switch on the fly from discrete to integrated GPUs – or use them in combination to boost 3D graphics performance. Other technologies geared at improving IGP are coming as well, such as PowerXpress which can increase the power of IGP units when plugged into the wall.

They are also introducing new server processors, including a quad-core Opteron, with a model for workstations and a model for servers.

I have a HP Dv 6000 series laptop with 8400M gs...I guess its pretty decent....Not all AMD based lappys come with 7000M cards...

As concerned to the topic i guess acer has better VFM

how much did the DV 6000 cost you? I think for AMD based laptops within the 30K mark, most have the NVIDIA 7000M card. I bought my presario f700 in february this year for 26k, and then the scenario was very similar. Most AMD bsed laptops within similar price quotations came with the AMD Athlon X2 1.9 Ghz processor, NVIDIA 7000M card. But having used it for 4 months now, I'd not recommend this combination to anyone. It's too power hungry, and gets too hot, and is incompatible with linux.

i beg to differ!!!!i have an year old compaq 3228au based on AMD turion64 single core laptop,used it 24X7 during the day for work and at night as a download rig....the build quality is awesome for a lap valued at 30k, never faced any problems, acer costs less but it comes nowhere near the build quality of the compaq!!!!!!:)
