Please answer the following questions for others to help you out better.
 • What's your Budget? 50k
 • What will be your primary usage for the notebook be? Work related viz IBM RAD/Eclipse + Some gaming like Batman Arkham City / Ridge Racer Unbounded types.
 • What size and weight considerations do you have? Not too stingy about screen size. 15" max
 • Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest? Any good brand
 • Any other considerations? Matt screen will be good. Not at the cost of depreciated clarity.

I been looking at 3 models:

1) Dell XPS 15 - 55k

i5/4GB DDR3/ Nvidia GT540 2GB

Backlit, 2.1 JBL, 1 yr warranty

2) Acer Aspire 5755G - ~46k

i5/4GB DDR3/ Nvidia GT540 2GB

http://www.flipkart....a5-1d49dc17bcc5

3) HP Pavillion g6 1201tx - ~43k

i5/4GB DDR3/ AMD Radeon HD 6470M 1GB

4) Acer Aspire 5755G - 37k

Same as (3) but with GT540 1GB

This one has 3 yrs warranty

I am more inclined towards Dell, but friend has been pushing me towards HP.

My only incentive seems to be premium built and the Gfx card. I would rather take the option 4 if i am to cut down on expense.

Query:

1) How justified would be the Dell purchase

2) Been looking up: http://www.notebook4...web/pagevga.php

GT540 1GB doesnt looks too depleted compared with the 2GB variation.

How much does the performance goes down ..?

3) How good is AMD Radeon HD 6470M 1GB to play games like Batman Arkham City ?

I fyou want peace of mind go with Dell.Or else go with Hp DV6-6121TX @55k.

http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/in/e...329744-64354-64354-5082212-5118031.html?dnr=1

My cousin has this and it runs all games smoothly @1366x768.Runs a bit hot but all HP lappies do that.My cousin uses a cooling pad for this.

The Dell has a superb HD screen but the stock screen is crap.

I am not so sure about Acer with their build quality reputation.

As to your query 6470M is not upto the mark for playing modern games with all eye candy enabled. The 540M is above the 6470M in that regard.

Another good option is this one-

http://www.flipkart.com/asus-k53sm-...Ng--&ref=99b30e55-b074-4347-a1cc-46d8d54cf2c1

The GPU in this one is a slightly improved 540M but it has a 1TB HDD and a better CPU.

The Hp 431 is similar to the config you've mentioned for the HP Pavillion g6 1201tx. I got it for 30k a year back from ebay india. with 1 yr warranty honoured in India. My sister is using it and it has survived paint spillages, and the ultimate level of abuse and it still looks structurally intact and works very nicely.

I have used HP pavillion for around 3 years. It's prone to crashes and battery got exhausted in around 1 year. It gets overheated a lot.

If you can find better options than HP, then go for them.

That is the single thing that shoots down so many well configured HP laptops.

My cousin has the HP for the past 8 months or so and so far it is running without any hiccups.

Not sure though what will happen in the long run considering HP's overheating issues.

As to the HP DV6-6154TX it is pretty same to 6121TX with the exception of 6490M GPU in lieu of 6770M.

I would stay away from Acer.I have seen quite a number of them in the hands of my friends in college give all sorts of issues.

#Marcus,

53k was a bloody good deal tbh. Now 6121 seems to have been permanently discontinued. Sadly enuf.

6154 has a a gpu languishing towards the bottom end of mid range gpu. I think the 7012 from DV6 series will be a better option. nVidia GeForce GT 630M 2GB is a better gfx unit.

How do the HP laptop runs.. ? heating issues i mean ..

AFAIK 630M 2GB DDR3 is below the 6770M 2GB DDR5.

But I guess this has Optimus which is a pretty nifty thing in favour of nVidia

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

I have told my cousin not to game on the laptop without a cooling pad and he has done so from the first day.

Till now the laptop runs without any issues.Sound quality is good(compared to the tinny speakers on my thinkpad any speaker is good

)

BTW the 6121 TX doesn't show up in the discontinued list

1) I was comparing the 630M of 7012 and GT540. Both 2GB variations.

2) This 7012 is a newly launched laptop and i dont know if we can predict based on other HP models.

Kinda risky to dismiss it like that.

3) 7012 is giving a decent competition to XPS 15 and only hasnt got the backlit KB.

Woofered speakers and screen has been matched.

4) It also has 1 yr accidental damage protection.. and IF it has the 999 offer of extending warranty upto 3 yrs..

then we have some deal.

5) XPS 15 is also about 10% pricier than 7012.

Now Question: Does XPS 15 runs hotter? i mean does it warrants a laptop cooler ??

my review of Dell XPS : http://blog.iavin.co...iew-benchmarks/ It may help you.

Dell XPS has [had ?] awesome screen, super awesome speakers & excellent keyboard. The build is good, but design sucks. Thats the only complaint I have.

But I read somewhere they have stopped FHD B+RG LED screen in India. So, I don't know about current screens.

The FHD screen of xps is miles ahead of the competition. The stock 1366x768 screen is sucky.

What I mean to say vis a vis 630M is that it is ranked 114 in the GPU list where the 6770M is 77.

The 7012 is no doubt a good model but if you get 6121TX in your budget then its a better bet at least gaming wise.

And believe me you will feel the pangs with the 7012 when a games stutters @ 1366x768 with all eyecandy enabled.

The 7012 has a speedier proccy,2GB more ram and 3x USB 3.0 which are missing in the 6121.

As to XPS overheating I don't think it is that hot.Have a friend with the same model which runs cool enough.

Even i push you towards HP or ASUS and away away from Dell.. no matter what people keep saying about HP, i still find it much better than the other brands.. you will slowly realize this after you've bought it....there are very small small things, that make HP better than the other brands... there are people who keep crying that HP sucks because it broke down and bad after sales service and blah blah blah.. matter of fact is, such people will keep crying with any brand because they just dont know how to handle a laptop..

ASUS is good, toshiba is good too, but the looks and configs are quite boring.. dont know about after sales service.. never owned an ASUS.. still have HP DV6 working perfectly fine with no problems till date.. .

I own a Thinkpad and a HP Netbook, and have used some HP business and consumer laptops and I'm reasonably sure I know how to use laptops

All brands have failures, but HP handles them pathetically. It took them a month to replace a battery. Touchpad never got replaced when it malfunctioned since malfunction was inconsistent.

HP drivers are also a PAIN to deal with.

Lenovo OTOH replaces the parts within 24 hours most of the time, works with XP-windows 8 and ubuntu with no changes needed (default drivers). for added functionality just download a single tool which will download and auto install all drivers and keep them up to date

It also allows me to change my RAM,HDD,etc without voiding my warranty. HP does not allow that

Turn around times at the service centers are pretty pathetic as well

Sorry, but your statement is wrong

EDIT: Dell has decent after sales, atleast for the Latitude series. Cant say about driver support there

I have a Dell XPS 15 L502X and I have never had any issues with it. The build quality is also very good. I don't know why so many people didn't like its design but for me it looks awesome.

@OP I can get you that Dell XPS 15 for around 49K after 12% employee discount. Let me know.
