Which LCD TV - Bravia 32S 32V or 32U

superczar

Juggernaut
decided to take the plunge and pick a 32" LCD TV.
Intended usage is
30% - watching TV (TATA Sky)
30% - Watching Movies (Hooked via DVI to Mac Mini)
20% - Games on Wii through component cable
20% - Usage as a comp monitor (DVI - Mac Mini)

So yesterday, I went down to the Sony store
They did not have 32U but did a A-B comparison between 32S and 32V
I tried noticing a difference but could not (source was a normal DVD upscaled to 1080p)
Having said that, the price difference between the S and V is just 5K

The quotes I have got from Sony:

52K for 32V
47K for 32S

quotes I have got from my reasonably trustworthy Singapore pigeon

42.5K for 32V
38.75 for 32S
37 for 32U

I am kinda confused now and wondering what choice is recommended by folks here

And if not a Bravia, are there any other good LCDs in the market that I should go take a look at?

Man- just yesterday i checked a print advt for the Bravias. :(
Why do they have so so so many series? :@

I am lost- will take some time to do an indepth comparo like i used to. :P
Will have to start moving out soon- to takea personal look at all those- coz never buy without looking and/or comparing. :cool2:

Sometimes the highest end is not worth it like we know, a notch or 2 lower may have the same quality without the features we don't need.
say for example- i went for a notch lower WEGA coz i didnt want PIP or the stupid boomy boombox and saved some 5-7K or how the Viewsonic higher end 22inch LCDs have webcam and stuff we dont want. :)

If anyone has a comparo between the various Bravias- please do post here. :)
(i will try sending someone over to the Sony/Vijay Sales outlets and get the specs sheets. :))

well i put several of them side by side and compared the same pictures / video.
Lg, Samsung, Sharp, Sony V and S and Panasonic

The sharp seemed to have the most color purity and intensity.

Yup- Most peeps who have seen it have the same opinion.

I think really worth checking it out. :)
But how is the service backup for SHARP here?? :ashamed:

(Call it dumb or whatever but will have to get one with bill and warranty. :ashamed: )

well i got one 6 months ago with bill and warranty and got another 32" without....since i wanted the sharp and did not want to pay 60k for a 32"!

keeping my fingers crossed

The 32" U Sony is better than the S series by miles . That is your best best . for a demo , you are welcome at my place .

the sony S series has the same panel found in V series i.e SPVA.except that the S series doesnt have a wide gamot color.the U series uses a cmo MVA panel which has a lot of color shift and dvd play back wasn't has good has the sony S,V series.i have seen all the tvs in action and this is what i found the sharp for eg the symbol discovery channel is clear ,sony is not so clear.but when u switch to channels like NDTV bussines very the caption or stock stuff goes fast the sony is better.colors are good in both sony(S,v) and sharp.sharp is expensive.but i finaly went for the sony V series it also had better audio compared to sharp.

keeping the specs aside , me and a friend did go and check the V and the S series in action , while the V series is undoubtedly good , is also on the costlier side and not in my budget . If you have the bucks , go for it blindfolded and you will not be disappointed , however if you have to make a choice between the S series and the U , trust me when i say this , the U series looks a lot better . and this is from First hand experience , me and my friend both agree , but if you feel its all up to the specs , its your choice .

i use it as my PC monitor and trust me , i could not be happier . :)

well sharekhan i dont know which S series u saw but i am talking about the brand new S series KLV-32S310A which came just about a more than a week ago to india.you might have seen the older KLV-32S200A.

^^ no i have not seen to new one .
Ill take your word for it and assume it is good .

To the buyer .
set yourself a budget and then decide what you want to buy . :)

After doing a specs comparison, it turned out the difference between the S and the V was in the CCFL (backlight) (32S300 and 32V300)

The V has superior CCFL which they term as CCFL 2nd gen with a wider color gamut

So eventually went to buy the 32V which was out of stock...so was the 32S300

What was in stock was the 32S310..the seller (a parallel importer ;) ) asked me to wait till Monday for a V to come

So Googled for the 32S310, and turns out the 32S310 has the Wide color gamut CCFL

SO went ahead and picked that up....

Damn sony for all the confusing nonmenclature

Thanks Freaky and Unlucky_Devil for coming along

And thanks for all the help guys
