Tell me a good mobile operator for Maharashtra circle (except Mumbai).
Want 3g if available.
I don't do more than 2-3 hours of voice calls a week. Hardly send any SMS a month.
All the people I talk to use airtel. But seems they don't have 3g in Maharashtra now.
How's reliance or docomo or aircel?
Does reliance have GSM or they are cdma only? I don't want to spend on a new mobile.

Currently on Vodafone postpaid. Thinking of jumping to another operator.

Why Jump Vodafone, yes they have the area covered, But frankly I'll never suggest Vodafone India to anyone, if even it were be the last resort. Nothing is systematic or proper. You ask them anything they'll just show you the door. Airtel seems fine, been on their network too!

Why do say they dont have 3G? You mean to say they haven't won the spectrum here for MH as a whole? But I have a 3G enabled Postpaid connection at Pune, Does it mean that they have sharing agreement with Vodafone/TATA/IDEA/BSNL? Aint this problem in the courts currently?
If your looking for MH as whole, only Vodafone/TATA/IDEA/BSNL have licenses for MH. For Mumbai Vodafone/Airtel/Reliance/MTNL

3G or no 3G stay away from Airtel specially in Pune.
Since your usage is very limited Vodafone is really good. My sec phone is a docomo which has really good plans time to time and the network coverage and call quality is equally good to vodafone.
I am myself planning to port my primary no to Docomo in next month.
Currently on Vodafone I do the 99recharge for 300MB interneton 2& 3G/1month validity.
and for talktime I do a 300 ftt topup or a 98 recharge which gives about 9000local and nat mobile seconds for 15days.
I also dont use SMS but if I require it for few days I do the rs36 recharge which gives some 200sms a day for a month or something.
which city will you be using this mostly in ..... and which areas?

Idea was pretty good in Pune when I was there around 2006-2010. Vodafone and Airtel made for didnt have the network that Idea seemed to have.

I'm in vasai area. Currently I don't think vodafone gives good plans like other providers for postpaid users. Everything is costlier than prepaid. Also they have charged me 1.5k again for my current lifetime plan for no reason. Their roaming charges are high. They charge me roaming fees for calling from vasai to andheri since I bought card from Mumbai shop. They have cleverly divided Mumbai from rest of Maharashtra. So every call I make becomes STD call and charged 1.50 per minute.

Airtel does not have 3g license in Maharashtra circle. They are probably sharing with others. My sister has airtel with 3g service and she was told that 3g service would stop after 21st may or something like that.

vodafones corporate offers at some places are really good. Like in bangalore, for a plan of 299 rental, i get 800 minutes/800 sms free. 2gb 2g data is another 99 bucks extra and that seems resonable enough to me. But yes, in general, they can be expensive and always more expensive than prepaid given you have reasonable amount of STD calling.

To reduce the roaming rates there will be rate cutter packages. I am not sure what will be the amount, but afaik a 6x pack used to give me 70 p/minute calling on all roaming incoming/outgoing.

Aircel/Tata Docoomo will be cheaper, but I have had too much of network drops on them to rely on them for my primary number.

Vodafone has the best signal strength all over Mumbai.

Aircel and Airtel don't give 3G.

I don't suggest reliance.

U can check out docomo.

Mumbai circle sux...

I was so used to 1/2 paise / second(local +std, mobile and landline) and 200 sms free everyday(local plus national) on Vodafone Karnataka.

I had bad experience with docomo in past. They kept asking me for documents even though I had given it twice. They disconnected my number and took the balance amount.

:D I'm already using vodafone. So I'm stuck with them like I'm stuck with bsnl for landline internet services. :(

even i converted my postpaid connection to prepaid for same reason.... i thought i was paying more than prepaid and operators take postpaid customers for granted when it comes to support and service... once you convert to prep paid you can mnp. you may not be able to directly mnp from postpaid... several reasons for that... so first thing go pre paid

I always use prepaid. Currently i have Vodafone Mumbai number and use it mostly in Pune. I am ok with the connectivity. I use 3G in Pune mostly and rarely in Mumbai. But 3G is absolutely fine except few area of Hinjewadi Phase 2 especially inside buildings.

I hate airtel to the core so i would probably never take them again.

I'm stuck with Airtel in Bangalore for now. Earlier they had a 2G plan for Rs.98 and it offered 2GB of monthly usage. Now they have increased the price to Rs.125 and reduced the monthly usage limit to 1GB.

Can't seem to know which operator to switch to. I've always stayed with Airtel from the moment I bought my first phone, and I'm still using the same number.

just take the 650mb rs 98 2g plan.it is impossible to use up 650mb at 2g speed

I'm on just that for now. There were instances when my broadband was down and I used up almost all of my 2GB for browsing on my computer. Shouldn't the rates be going down? Now I see that they've increased the rates for the same speed, and then also reduced the cap on usage limit.

It's like Dominos reducing the size of Pizza by half and then charging you 25% more for it.

The simple reason for these operators to increase price of 2G is to force people into going for 3G. Isn't it that obvious ?
